Getting To Know the Staff at MVHS
We sent out eight questions to the staff at MVHS in an effort to get to know them better. The eight questions we asked were:
- What job(s) did you have before coming to MVHS?
- What is your favorite cereal?
- What was your favorite activity in high school?
- What is your favorite book?
- What would you sing at Karaoke Night?
- When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
- What is on your Bucket List?
- Which Actor / Actress would you choose to play you in your biopic?
The staff responded with their answers to the eight questions and here is what we learned.
Heather Anderton - Math Teacher
- After college, I was a Math Teacher in Fayetteville, NC. I then decided to take a break from teaching and spent some time in the financial industry. I've worked as a bank teller, a New Accounts Rep, and even a Fraud Detection Specialist. But, teaching is my calling and I am so happy to be a part of TSD and MVHS.
- My favorite cereal is Multi Grain Cheerios.
- Soccer was my favorite activity in high school but I was also part of a traveling drama group outside of school.
- Lord of the Rings is my favorite book, but I tend to enjoy a variety of fantasy novels when I have time to read.
- At Karaoke Night, I would sing Disney songs, oldies or ballads.
- When I was a child, I wanted to grow up to be a veterinarian. I even started college with this plan. Then, I took General Biology 101 and realized I couldn't find specific nerves, muscles, etc. Fortunately, I had a professor who told me I would make a good math teacher!
- My bucket list includes a trip to New Zealand.
- The actress I would choose to play me in my biopic would be Amy Adams. I think she might be a good fit.
Kate Atrash - English Teacher
- Before MV I worked as a teacher, writer / editor, tutor and Wild Oats employee.
- My favorite cereal is Golden Grahams.
- Newspaper was my favorite activity in high school.
- Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed is my favorite book.
- At Karaoke Night, I would pass on singing, but I would cheer enthusiastically for everyone!
- When I was a child, I wanted to grow up to be a Forensic Anthropologist.
- My bucket list includes taking my kids on an epic food trip across Europe.
- The actress I would choose to play me in my biopic is... maybe Amy Poehler? This is tough one.
Danielle Balliet - Social Studies Teacher & Lisa Coordinator
- Before MV, I was a commodities buyer for Lucent Technologies and I taught middle school social studies at Turner and Walt Clark.
- My favorite cereal is Peanut Butter Captain Crunch.
- Varsity basketball, track and tennis were my favorite activities in high school.
- The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula K Le Guin is my favorite book.
- At Karaoke Night, I would sing Hey Ya by Outkast.
- When I was a child, I wanted to grow up and get into Business Marketing - I wanted the $$$. Oops!
- My bucket list includes traveling to Africa and getting a full sleeve tattoo.
- The actress I would choose to play me in my biopic would be Cameron Diaz because I want her legs in my next life!
Ryan Barron - Math Teacher & Student Council Advisor
- Before MV, I was a soccer referee and referee instructor.
- My favorite cereal is Cinnamon Life.
- Basketball was my favorite activity in high school.
- Life's Golden Ticket by Brendon Burchard is my favorite book.
- At Karaoke Night, I would sing Don't Stop Believin' by Journey.
- When I was a child, I wanted to grow up to be a lawyer.
- My bucket list includes visiting Scotland.
- The actor I would choose to play me in my biopic would be Steve Carrell.
Jennifer Bass - Library / Media Specialist
- Before MV, I served as a Librarian in Las Vegas, Houston, Hawaii Island and on Maui. I have also worked as a nanny.
- Being the Yearbook Editor was my favorite activity in high school.
- I like to read a lot of historical fiction and psychological thrillers!
- My bucket list includes traveling through the Italian countryside.
- The actress I would choose to play me in my biopic would be Reese Witherspoon.
Austin Betts - School Counselor - Class of 2024
- Before MV, I worked at Jimmy John's as part of the event staff for my college and as a tutor. My career started when I came to MVHS as a counselor.
- My favorite cereal is either Frosted Flakes or Cocoa Puffs.
- Basketball was my favorite activity in high school.
- Into the Wild is my favorite book.
- At Karaoke Night, , I would not sing!
- When I was a child, I wanted to grow up to be a professional baseball player.
- My bucket list includes a re-do of my failed pandemic honeymoon to Ireland!
- The actor I would choose to play me in my biopic would be anyone with red hair.
Kelsey Braun - World Language Department Head
- Mountain View High School was my first job.
- My favorite cereal is Chocolate Cheerios.
- Volleyball was my favorite activity in high school.
- I don't really enjoy reading so I don't have a favorite book.
- At Karaoke Night, I would sing the Fresh Prince theme song or almost anything Disney.
- When I was a child, I wanted to grow up to be a teacher!
- My bucket list includes traveling to Greece & Italy.
- The actress I would choose to play me in my biopic would be....maybe Lily Collins because she has brown hair and brown eyes.
Jen Byrd - English Teacher
- Before MV, I taught art, worked as a realtor and worked as a photographer. This is my 8th year teaching English.
- My favorite cereal is Lucky Charms.
- Photography was my favorite activity in high school.
- Catcher in the Rye is my favorite book.
- At Karaoke Night, I would sing Ain't No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye.
- When I was a child, I wanted to grow up to be a pilot (not commercial).
- My bucket list includes swimming with sharks.
- The actress I would choose to play me in my biopic would be Anna Kendrick.
Brandon Casterline - SRO
- Before MV, I worked patrol.
- My favorite cereal is Frosted Flakes.
- Sports were my favorite activities in high school.
- Once an Eagle is my favorite book.
- At Karaoke Night, I would not sing!
- When I was a child, I wanted to grow up to be a police officer.
- My bucket list includes traveling to Europe.
- The actor I would choose to play me in my biopic would be Will Smith.
Raquel Castillo - Social Worker
- Before MV, I was a registered behavior tech, a paraprofessional, golf coach and wrestling coach.
- My favorite cereal is Cocoa Krispies.
- Being on the girl's golf team was my favorite thing in high school.
- East of Eden by John Steinbeck is my favorite book.
- At Karaoke Night, I would sing Mr. Brightside by The Killers.
- When I was a child, I wanted to grow up to be a lawyer or pediatrician.
- My bucket list includes seeing the northern lights.
- The actress I would choose to play me in my biopic would be Auli'i Cravalho (Moana).
Todd Clark - Dean of Students
- Before MV, I worked as a School Administrator, a Secondary Teacher, a MS Basketball Coach, breakfast cook, field worker, Lifeguard and a Third Key at Reebok.
- My favorite cereal is Frosted Mini Wheats or Honey Nut Cheerios.
- Basketball was my favorite activity in High School.
- The Bible and Quiet Strength by Tony Dungy are my favorite books.
- At Karaoke Night, I would sing Bohemian Rhapsody.

Dan Cowgill - Assistant Principal
- Before MV, I was the Assistant Principal at Lake Brantley High School in Altamonte Springs, FL.
- My favorite cereal is Cheerios.
- Marching Band was my favorite activity in high school.
- Brave New World is my favorite book.
- At Karaoke Night, I would sing Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen.
- When I was a child, I wanted to grow up to be a Ghostbuster! Who you gonna call?

Gretchen Dekkers - Family & Consumer Sciences Teacher
- My favorite cereal is Reese's Puff.
- Basketball was my favorite activity in high school.

- When I was a child, I wanted to grow up to be an interior designer.

Dawn Dennis - School Nurse
- Before MV, I had multiple nursing jobs including high risk obstetrics, hospice, public health and memory care.
- My favorite cereal is Captain Crunch.
- Future Farmers of America was my favorite activity in high school.
- East of Eden is my favorite book.
- At Karaoke Night, I would sing Muskrat Love.
- When I was a child, I wanted to grow up to be a nurse.
- My bucket list includes to bike the Mickelson Trail in South Dakota on an electric bike!
- The actor I would choose to play me in my biopic would be Danny DeVito, just so I could see how he would play me!
Michael Dubas - Credit Recovery Teacher
- Before MV, I was a Social Studies Teacher, Instructional Tech Coach, Dean and Assistant Principal.
- My favorite cereal is Fruity Pebbles.
- Football was my favorite activity in high school.
- For Whom the Bell Tolls is my favorite book.

- When I was a child, I wanted to grow up to be an Archeologist.

Rob Eberle - English Teacher
- Before MV, I was a jack-of-all-trades.
- My favorite cereal is Krusty-O's.
- Student Council was my favorite activity in high school.
- The Lord of the Rings is my favorite book.
- At Karaoke Night, I would sing Grateful Dead '77 Cornell Scarlet > Fire.
- When I was a child, I wanted to grow up to be a child.

Tyler English - PE & Health
- Before MV, I taught PE and Health at Berthoud HS, served as a campus monitor at Turner MS and I was the Student Assistant for CSU football.
- My favorite cereal is Golden Grahams.
- Football was my favorite activity in high school.
- Harry Potter is my favorite book series.
- At Karaoke Night, I would sing Home Sweet Home by Motley Crue.
- When I was a child, I wanted to grow up to be an NFL player. I also wanted to be a police officer at one point in time.
- My bucket list includes to visit as many college football stadiums as possible!
- The actor I would choose to play me in my biopic would be the god of thunder himself...Chris Hemsworth!
Joe Ernst - Science Team Lead
- Before MV, I was a Snowboard Instructor, Ski and Ride School Supervisor/Manager, Email Marketing Customer Support Rep., and Soccer Coach.
- My favorite cereal is Raisin Bran.
- Health Occupations Students of America was my favorite activity in high school.

Kelly Evans - Social Studies Teacher
- Before MV, I worked as an Assistant Manager of Shipping, Receiving and Imports.
- My favorite cereal is Honey Nut Cheerios.
- Tennis was my favorite activity in high school.
- I enjoy reading mysteries.
- At Karaoke Night, I would sing Bad Blood.
- When I was a child, I wanted to grow up to be an FBI Undercover Agent.

Sheryl Fahrenbruch - Receptionist
- Before MV, I was a Senior Manager of Community Outreach and Senior Manager of Occupational Health. I was in Health Care for 20 years. I also worked as the Office Manager at New Vision Charter School right before coming to Mountain View.
- My favorite cereals are Cocoa Krispies and Special K.
- FHA and Show Choir were my favorite activities in high school.

Donna Fichot - Facilities Team
- Before MV, I worked too many jobs to name!

Jill Fitzpatrick - PE & Health Teacher
- Before MV, I taught at Littleton High School and Arvada West High School. Prior to teaching, I was a campus monitor, administrative assistant and sports journalist.

Jessica Galvin - Mummy Range Secretary
- Before MV, I was a cake decorator, baker and did a lot of customer service stuff.

- I like to read anything romance or mystery. My favorite book is always changing.
- At Karaoke Night, I would not sing! I would be the back up dancer for someone else singing.
- When I was a child, I wanted to grow up to be a veterinarian, but I would cry if I ever saw a hurt animal now.

Felicity Gann - ILC Teacher
- Before MV, I was an ALC Teacher in Poudre School District.
- My favorite cereal is Reese's Puffs.

Amy Gebhardt - Library Media Aide
- Before MV, I worked at a bagel shop in high school.
- I am not a cereal gal. I do oatmeal most mornings.
- Proud band nerd here! I played the flute and the saxophone. I met my husband in the high school marching band.
- How can someone choose their favorite book? I always say my favorite book is Matilda by Roald Dahl because it is the book that made me fall in love with reading. My favorite book I read this summer was Go As a River by Shelley Read.
- When I was a child, I wanted to grow up to be a veterinarian.

Ericka Griess - Learning Center Teacher
- Before MV, I was a teacher and I am still a teacher. I have been at MVHS since 2003.
- My favorite cereal is Granola.
- Being with my friends was my favorite activity in high school.

Lindsey Gulsvig - ILC Teacher
- Before MV, I worked in group homes and helped with day programs for adults with disabilities. I also waited tables.

Matt Hall - ELA Teacher
- Before MV, I worked as an electrician and contractor.

Amie Harrison - Re-engagement Specialist
- Before MV, I taught english in high school for twenty four years in Oklahoma.
- My favorite cereal is Honeycomb.
- Marching band and softball were my favorite activities in high school.
- A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini is my favorite book.
- At Karaoke Night, I would not sing but I would cheer loudly for anyone that does!
- When I was a child, I wanted to grow up to be an Astronaut.
- My bucket list includes skydiving. I would love it!

Melisa Harshman - PE & Health Teacher
- Before MV, I was a building manager / coordinator for the CSU Rec Center.
- My favorite cereal is Honey Bunches of Oats Almond.
- Volleyball and Show Choir were my favorite activities in high school.
- I love to read historical fiction.
- At Karaoke Night, I would sing any late 80's pop.
- When I was a child, I wanted to grow up to be a part of the International Olympic Committee.
- My bucket list includes traveling to Ireland, Scotland, England, Greece and Bora Bora.
- The actress I would choose to play me in my biopic would be either Sandra Bullock or Angelina Jolie.
Suzy Hass - Office Manager
- Before MV, I worked as a Lifeguard, Swim Instructor, Swim Coach, Pool Manager, farm laborer (set irrigation pipe, hoed fields, drove corn truck), construction labor for Synthetic Stucco Company, Avon Representative, tanning salon consultant, verified mortgage credit reports and a Paralegal!
- My favorite cereal is Lucky Charms.
- Student Council and band were my favorite activities in high school.
- I have so many books I love that I can't pick just one as my favorite.
- At Karaoke Night, I would sing Summer Nights from Grease.
- When I was a child, I wanted to grow up to be a teacher.
- My bucket list includes includes traveling to Australia.
- The actress I would choose to play me in my biopic would be Tea Leoni.
Jill Hawley - Learning Center Teacher
- Before MV, I was a nanny and a manager / trainer at Kinko's.
- My favorite cereal is Fruity Pebbles or Cap'n Crunch.
- School Newspaper/Journalism was my favorite activity in high school.
- I like to read anything by Salman Rushdie.
- If I was with my husband at Karaoke Night, I would sing Summer Lovin' from the movie Grease. If I was by myself, I would sit and watch.
- When I was a child, I wanted to grow up to be a teacher.
- My bucket list includes a trip to Iceland.
- The actress I would choose to play me in my biopic would be Emma Watson. This is according to the Buzzfeed Quiz I just took, but I'm not so sure.
Kim Hayes - Science Teacher
- Before MV, I was a science teacher in Kentucky.
- My favorite cereal is Cocoa Puffs.
- Marching Band was my favorite activity in high school.
- Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams is my favorite book.
- At Karaoke Night, I would sing Angel from Montgomery by Bonnie Raitt.
- When I was a child, I wanted to grow up to be an artist.
- My bucket list includes climbing a fourteener.
- The actress I would choose to play me in my biopic would be Molly Shannon.
Nicole Hecker - English Teacher
- Before MV, I was a teacher at another school.
- My favorite cereal is Cheerios.
- Theatre was my favorite activity in high school.
- The Martian by Andy Weir is my favorite book.
- At Karaoke Night, I would not sing but I would, however, enjoy everyone else's singing.

- My bucket list includes traveling to another country. So far I have been to Costa Rica and South Korea.

Karrie Herring - Para & Unified Coach

Stephanie Hindes - ELD Teacher
- Before MV, I worked as an ESS Teacher and Bilingual Teacher.
- My favorite cereal is Cheerios.
- Tall Flags was my favorite activity in high school.

- At Karaoke Night, I would sing I Can Buy Myself Flowers.
- When I was a child, I wanted to grow up to be a scientist.

Patrick Huddleston - Science Teacher
- Before MV, I was a cook and kitchen manager.

- Baseball and basketball were my favorite activities in high school.

- At Karaoke Night, I would sing Friends in Low Places by Garth Brooks.

JD Jacob - Theatre Teacher
- Before MV, I was a Project Management Consultant and I served in the US Army National Guard.
- My favorite cereal is Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
- Speech & Debate were my favorite activities in high school.
- A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness is my favorite book.
- At Karaoke Night, I would sing My Way by Frank Sinatra.
- When I was a child, I wanted to grow up to be an actor.
- My bucket list includes traveling to Europe.
- The actor I would choose to play me in my biopic would be Daniel Day-Lewis.
Erik Kaufhold - Business Teacher
- Before MV, I taught English in Seoul, South Korea.
- My favorite cereal is Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
- Rock climbing was my favorite activity in high school.
- I have many different books in different genres I enjoy. I'd say though that it'd have to be a toss up between Wind Up Bird Chronicles or Kafka on the Shore. I also love the story by Jonathan Livingston Seagull.
- At Karaoke Night, I would sing the German version of 99 Red Balloons. When I lived in Korea, my Korean friends would request that I sing Beatles or John Denver songs.
- When I was a child, I wanted to grow up to be Spiderman.
- My bucket list includes to take Italian cooking lessons and traveling to the Amalfi Coast to hike .
- The actors I would choose to play me in my biopic would be either Jason Statham, Patrick Stewart or Bruce Willis.
Kim Knowles - Art Teacher & Lisa Arts and Culture 1/2
- Before MV, I was a Landscape Architect for more than twenty years before returning to CSU to get my BA in Art Education. I commuted all of those years to Boulder, Denver and north Fort Collins. I designed a lot of parks along the Front Range. Most of my work was in the mountains - Avon, Beaver Creek and Edwards. Lifestyles of the rich and famous and I was involved in an impact statement for the expansion of Wolf Creek Ski Area. I also worked at LEMS for three years. This is my 11th year at MVHS.
- My favorite cereal is Quaker Cinnamon Oat Squares with peaches from our fundraiser.
- I played sports all three seasons in high school and loved making posters for Key Club. I also loved TP'ing friends houses in the middle of the night and climbing around in the caves in Red Rocks Park.
- The book I can't put down is my favorite...I love memoirs the most and stories based upon history, drama and time travel. Too hard to pick just one.
- At Karaoke Night, I would sing any Lumineers or Brandi Carlisle song.
- When I was a child, I wanted to grow up to be a writer and an artist. I used to create "magazines" with articles and illustrations. I often played "school" and have always been fascinated with the female pioneers and the westward expansion of the U.S.
- My bucket list includes climbing Mt. Fuji when I'm in Japan next summer. I also want to summit my 20th 14er in the near future. I would have loved to go heli-skiing in my youth but I may be a bit past that opportunity. So maybe, I just want to do a beach vacation down to the Maldives, Aruba Turks and Caicos Islands. Oh! I desperately want to return to Tuscany (without students) to live in a villa and enjoy the slow life of the countryside while enjoying the local food and wine, of course.

Mary Lain - Assistant Principal
- Before MV, I was a florist, wedding planner, PARA, English Teacher and Graduation Coach.
- My favorite cereal is Lucky Charms.
- Art class was my favorite activity in high school.

I held every position in the building at some point or another, but mostly waited tables and bartended. I was also a nanny while I was in college and worked at Nike for a short stint. I taught at Turner Middle School- GT, 8th grade ELA, 7th grade Computer Literacy, 6th grade PE/Health and 7th grade choir.
