Haut Gap's February Bulldog Update
February 2024
Principal's Message
February is at the heart of winter and it has been a cold one. But, here at Haut Gap Middle School, we are fired up and ready to learn. This 3rd quarter of school has a lot of school work, projects, and activities. We encourage parents and guardians to be the guardrails of success when keeping our students on track. The next 90 days are potent curriculum days and we aim to push all of our students to do their academic best.

School Climate Check In
“Positive human connection plays an important role in maintaining our emotional-physical health, wellbeing, and growth. Research has shown that positive relationships encourage us to embrace and pursue opportunities that foster a sense of purpose and meaning in life. This is primarily because of the support that comes from a healthy relationship. In the face of adversity, healthy relationships and the positive support they offer, not only buffer us from the harms of stress but allow us to flourish despite these harms (Stanford University).” In this short month that we have with students and staff, we will focus on building the types of relationships that will buffer stress, flourish no matter the circumstances, and encourage opportunities.

February Focus: Let's Talk About Vaping
We recognize that high and middle school students are bombarded with persistent
messages that “everyone” is using or misusing substances. This can become
self-fulfilling and use becomes more permissive. As a result, Student Support Services
and Department of School Support are excited to launch a social norms campaign to
help students reduce the misperception and further encourage healthy choices around
substance use. This month is specific to vaping (tobacco). The ideal target audience
for the social norms campaign are middle and high school students, but upper
elementary students can also be included. We want students to learn to Follow the
Crowd, and national data supports that the majority of students are not using vapes
and many have never even tried any type of tobacco product. Please show the video
below, "Follow the Crowd", to your students. It can be posted on your school
websites, used on morning news shows, school announcements, newsletters and
banners!
Additional vaping resources for FAMILIES, STUDENTS, and STAFF can be found
on the ADAPT website.
Each month, we will be providing resources, information, and educational
opportunities for your students, staff, and parents on the following substances used
most often by youth.
● January- vaping (nicotine)
● February - Vaping (nicotine and THC-Delta 8 & 9).
● March - Cannabis/edibles
● April - Alcohol
● May - Prescription Drugs
