Registration is still open for the sixth annual Pennsylvania Computer Science For All (CSforAllPA) Summit, held June 14-15, 2023 at PaTTAN Harrisburg and online. Who's invited? EVERYONE involved in CS education, including educators, administrators, families and caregivers, partners from intermediate units, higher education, STEM institutions, out-of-school learning organizations, and others.
On April 27th, the Expanding Computing Education Pathways ( ECEP) Alliance announced the acceptance of seven new member states, including Pennsylvania. The mission of ECEP is to broaden participation in computing by identifying and addressing the policies, pathways, and practices in state education systems that are barriers to diverse student engagement and success.
We are accepting applicationsfor an educational consultant to join the PaTTAN CSinPA team. The full-time educational consultant: PAsmart Computer Science position will provide training and technical assistance to school districts, intermediate units, and agencies in Pennsylvania in the area of Computer Science and STEM.
We're hiring! These part-time, short-term projects are 100% virtual and offer flexible scheduling. Make some extra money and build your resume by sharing your CS knowledge and passions! Applications for each project are accepted on a rolling basis.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education, Bureau of Special Education is pleased to announce the sixth annual Pennsylvania Computer Science For All (CSforAllPA) Summit will be held June 14-15, 2023 at PaTTAN Harrisburg and online. The CSforAllPA Summit offers educators, leaders, and stakeholders the opportunity to share, discuss, and collaboratively develop tools, resources, and practices for CS learning experiences.

W e launched the CSinPA virtual community for you to seek out ideas from others and share resources. T here's no cost to participate, so we hope you'll join us. We also have two paid opportunities for people to engage in the community: Applications for both programs ar e accepted on a rolling basis.
Jigar Patel (Tuscarora Intermediate Unit 11) is participating in the 2022-23 CSTA Equity Fellowship, a national program focused addressing inequities in K-12 CS education. Jigar is well known in CSinPA for leading projects out of IU11, presenting annually at the CSforALLPA Summit, serving as the vice president of the CSTA Susquehanna Valley chapter, and more.
If you participated in the CSinPA K-8 Pathway, please complete the K-8 Pathway Follow-Up questionnaire . Y our input will help us identify priority areas for new elementary CS professional learning resources and opportunities. Graduate Certificate in CS Education - Elizabethtown College Elizabethtown College is offering a limited number of scholarships for this program, endorsed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) in preparing teachers to pass the 7-12 CS Praxis exam required to earn the PDE 7-12 CS add-on certificate.
At the Summit, Bureau of Special Education assistant director, Dr. Amy Pastorak helped us recognize C SforAllPA Exemplary Educator award finalists Heather Hedderman and Elizabeth Woods and the winner, Jeffrey Wile. was nominated by his principal at Warwick High School for his efforts to increase the number of female students in his classes.
54 teams participated in the ninth annual Governor's STEM Competition, designing and building solutions to problems impacting the Commonwealth. We applaud all the students' efforts, and congratulate the winning teams. Division 1 teams had a majority of returning members and Division 2 teams had a majority of new members.

After the 2019-20 PAsmart Targeted grant ended, we solicited feedback from educators and administrators via surveys and focus groups. Efforts to evaluate the impacts of the PAsmart Targeted Grant programs are ongoing. Our K-8 professional learning program was revised and remains available through partnering Intermediate Units (IUs).
CELEBRATIONS AND SHOUT-OUTS Training and Consultation to Implement Computer Science The CSinPA team recently launched a program for TaC especially interested in growing their capacity as leaders in CS education.
We're pleased to announce the LEAs participating in cohort 1 of our professional learning program to implement CS with drones. In just a few days, teachers serving as their LEA's ambassadors will begin with a day of building, flying, and coding drones.
The CSinPA K-8 Pathway is open to K-8 educators interested in growing their CS capacity. Cohorts (100% virtual or hybrid) are hosted locally by our intermediate unit (IU) partners. Act 48 credit hours are available. Click here to learn more.
We typically begin each CSinPA newsletter by recognizing individuals for their recent efforts in growing their capacity in CS or facilitating CS learning for others. We're taking a different approach in this edition, as communities across the Commonwealth begin a new school year. This month, we're celebrating yinz | youse | y'all.
PDE is hosting focus group sessions to receive feedback about the PAsmart Targeted program. PAsmart Focus groups are open to educators and administrators in schools/districts that participated in the 2018-19 or the 2019-20 PAsmart Targeted Grant program.

We celebrated the end of our 2018-19 PAsmart Targeted Grant cohorts and welcomed educators into our 2019-20 cohorts. Inspired by the discussion and collaboration of the 300+ in attendance at our virtual CSforAll-PA Summit in June, we restructured the CSforAll-PA Schoology course to support the community year-round.
