School Improvement Project
Of the School Improvement Survey, staff (50% response rate) indicated a first choice of save funds and parents (10% response rate) indicated a first choice of the concrete wrap around project. The latter would replace the grass next to the gym doors and go around the side of the building, allowing safer passage from the N. Galena side of the building. In alignment with our safety priorities, we will be moving forward with the concrete wrap around project. The timeline of the project is currently unknown. It will take approximately 6-8 weeks to get a quote for the project.
Fall Break, 11/20/23 - 11/24/23

BESS School Results, 3rd-5th Grades
The BESS (Behavioral and Emotional Screening System) is a universal screener that was administered to all students, 3rd-5th grade in October and will be administered again in April. This screener is a non-diagnostic assessment that can help us identify students’ needs. On a whole-school level, it helps us determine what we should be offering for all of our students or teaching at the “Tier 1” level. At the individual level, it helps us identify students who may benefit from additional opportunities for social-emotional learning (SEL) and offer opportunities such as space in a SEL group, individual work with the school counselor or social worker, and/or helping families find resources to support their child outside of school. This year we were able to implement the teacher and parent reports in addition to the student report. This allowed us to gain the perspective of how students are doing school wide in the social/emotional domain. The targets for the BESS screener are a risk level ratio of 80/15/5% in three levels (normal/elevated/extremely elevated).
Data using all three reports (Parent/Teacher/Student) indicates the following overall percentages:
Normal - 85.15%/Elevated - 10.49%/Extremely Elevated - 4.37%
Parent Report
Participation rate was 18.2% - we will be creating a plan to increase participation
Normal - 88.5%/Elevated - 8.85%/Extremely Elevated - 2.65%
Teacher Report
Participation rate was 99.2%
Normal - 87.1%/Elevated - 9.08%/Extremely Elevated - 3.82%
Student Report (3rd-5th Grade Only):
Participation rate was 99.7%
Normal - 79.58%./Elevated - 14.19%/Extremely Elevated - 6.23%
Students falling into the normal risk level are responding well to universal social/emotional learning and support services. Students falling into will have the Whole Child Team and classroom teachers working together to monitor and address needs that arise for these students. Students in the extremely elevated risk level are our immediate priority. The whole child team will reach out to parents and meet with students individually. These students may also have the opportunity to participate in small groups focused on social-emotional learning and coping skills.
We are very encouraged by these results. Our BESS data is exceeding the district averages (Normal 74.48%; Elevated 18.6%; Extremely Elevated 6.92%) and is meeting or exceeding BESS target percentages. We will continue to use this data to drive SEL decision making at Inspire and to serve individual students.
