A Message from GQES Administration!
Chameleons RISE: Raising Intentionality Strengthening Expectations for students, teachers, administration, and families.
Dear GQES Families,
On Monday last week, we had four and five degree temperature days and by the end of the week, the snow had all melted with above 70 degree temperatures! Fortunately, our students were able to enjoy the snow! Thank you for dressing your child appropriately for the weather and temperatures!
We want to honor our grade 3 and 4 students' work last week on the Winter Growth Assessment, a Virginia mandated assessment for both English/Language Arts and Math. As always, ask your child's teacher if you want to know how your child is progressing.
We are using video announcements now at GQES! Students enjoy seeing themselves as we prepare each day with our Pledge, Moment of Silence, Birthdays, and overall other announcements. Shout out to Mr. Slezak for orchestrating our video announcements!!!
Please remind your child about our expectations of being kind by having smiling faces, listening ears, helping hands, respecting boundaries, and doing our best in all learning tasks every day, please!
We appreciate you sending your child to school every day, on time, and ready to learn! Here is an infographic from Attendance Works: Attendance Clarification
If you have questions or concerns, always feel free to contact us at 540-662-3575. Thank you for partnering with us to help your child thrive!
Sincerely,

Recess Research
Outdoor play is beneficial for children beyond the physical activity it provides. It helps them socialize, understand their bodies better, engage in imaginative play and enjoy the outdoors. In today's busy and complex world, it can be difficult to schedule outdoor time with your child. But, it is something you should prioritize for your child's healthy growth and development.
School-aged children need about three hours of outdoor play each day. While this is a lot to add to a daily schedule, the activity will contribute to the physical and emotional health of your child. At GQES, we have at least one hour of additional physical play outside with our four recesses.
