The Weekly SharkBeat!
SJHS Weekly Parent Newsletter - August 27, 2023
First Week of School!
It's been a great first week back to school. 2023 school year is off to an exciting start. This week we met with all classes, reviewing expectations, rules and regulations, and sharing a few laughs together. The students were excited to be together with their classmates. The juniors were greeted by our Herff Jones representative to discuss class rings. A big congratulations to Emma Williams for being selected to receive the give-away.
Our first pep rally was also held this week. The students were definitely pumped up and ready to cheer on our Sharks.
Thank you for taking the time to review the Weekly Sharkbeat Newsletter. Please check the school website and Facebook page for additional updates and information. Thank you for choosing to be a part of the Shark family. Have a great evening, keep swimming forward, and as always, Go SHARKS!

Security
This year HCS implemented some new security measures which we have adopted here at SJH as well as changed a few things to help enforce the safety of our students and staff.
When visiting the school, all visitors will use the front entrance off of Hwy 707. Our security guard will greet you and inquire about your visit. We ask that you please have an ID ready to present to the security officer and bring into the building with you.
Also, all gates are locked once school starts. Students arriving late or leaving early will use the front entrance to go around the circle to the student parking lot.
Senior Makeup Portraits
Attention Seniors:
Any senior who has not had their pictures taken. We had to schedule a quick makeup day for Friday Sept 1st. We have 38 open appointments for students to sign up online. This is on a first come (signup) first served. Please note, the online scheduling system will close at midnight on Thursday 8/31. The digital flyer is attached for your convenience. This is not for juniors who are graduating early or new seniors to the school. Gifted and Talented Referrals
Any parent who wishes to refer their child for placement in the gifted and talented program should complete the attached form. Please send the completed referral form and any standardized test scores to the Gifted and Talented Office or email to Wendy Bernstein at wbernstein@horrycountyschools.net by September 18, 2023. It will be a parent responsibility to ensure that their child is present during the test days that each school selects for testing.
Early Pick Up
If you plan to pick your student up early or your student will drive off campus early, please send a note with your student to be turned in before school starts at the Welcome Desk. We will verify the note and give your student a pass to meet you or leave at the appropriate time. Sending a note cuts down on class interruptions. Unfortunately, we cannot accept phone calls or emails to dismiss students. We appreciate your help.
Student Drop-off and Pickup Procedures
Please review our drop-off and pickup procedures below, and thanks so much for your patience. We ask that you do not make a U-turn or turn around to avoid completing the circle in front of the school. This is a safety violation.
