No School on 10/8 and 10/11
Dear BHS Families:
We do NOT have school on Friday, 10/8 (conference day) and Monday, 10/11 (Indigenous People Recognized/Columbus Day Observed). School will resume on Tuesday, 10/12,
cycle day 3.
School is closed on Monday, October 11 in recognition of Indigenous Peoples’ Day (recognized)/Columbus Day.
Indigenous Peoples refers to populations that are the original inhabitants of any given geographic region in the world. Columbus Day was established to honor the discovery of America and serves as an opportunity to recognize the contributions of Italian Americans. The goal of Indigenous Peoples’ Day is not to erase and replace Italian American contributions but to note that it cannot be the only narrative. We now have a chance to examine how different narratives are constructed. There are many informative websites you can read to learn more together:

IMPORTANT REMINDERS
Reminder 1 – MASK WEARING over the nose and mouth!
Masks are required to be worn over the nose and mouth when inside any Brighton School Building or on a BUS.
Masks are to be worn over the nose and mouth in all interior areas of the high school and MUST be worn when standing or walking around.
Masks may be removed for eating/drinking and mask breaks ONLY, when seated in the upper GYM, cafeteria, or lower gym. When walking around for any reason, masks must be put back on. When student are finished eating/drinking, masks must be put back on over the nose and mouth.
While eating/taking mask breaks inside, students must distance themselves from other students as much as possible.
Students may remove their masks completely once they go outside to eat/take masks breaks under the tent or outside on campus when they are free and do not have class.
If staff members remind you to pull up your mask or to put on a mask inside the building, you must do so without question. They are just helping to enforce District and Board of Education Policy for everyone’s health and safety.
- Demonstrate Kindness, Self-Control, and Integrity by “PAUSING BEFORE YOU POST” pictures, messages, or videos to social media that may be derogatory, VIOLATIONS of the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA), threatening, or viewed as cyberbullying, harassment, or sexual harassment.
- We are educating our 9th grade students during LINK Crew seminars over the next two weeks. We will then be meeting with 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students during their seminars.
- Monitor and talk to your students about what they do on social media.
