World Kindness Day
On Monday, November 13th, Roslyn elementary school students kicked off World Kindness Day with a new initiative called the E Pledge—created by Gary and Lynne Falkowitz in honor of their son Ethan. World Kindness Day is an international holiday observed annually on November 13 as a day devoted to the positive potential of large and small acts of kindness.

Turkey Drive at Heights
Over 80 bags, containing a turkey and all the fixings of a traditional Thanksgiving meal, were packed by the Roslyn PFA and made available for pick up at Heights for local families experiencing food insecurity. Inside each bag were hand-colored cards, crafted by young students to wish the families a Happy Thanksgiving.
Heights Students get lesson in Financial Literacy
12 DECA members from Roslyn High School visited the first-grade classes at Heights to teach them about financial literacy. First graders loved learning about businesses in the community and how everyone has needs and wants.
A Jumpstart at East Hills
On November first, Roslyn community member Kelly Villella-Canton, whose sons attended East Hills, visited second-grade classes in the role of volunteer reader for Jumpstart’s annual Read for the Record campaign, which gives employees a day off from work to visit their local schools to read aloud to young students.
Grateful-Grams at Harbor Hill
In advance of Thanksgiving, students in Ms. Hintermeister and Ms. Kasovitz's fifth-grade class wrote 108 Grateful-Grams to each staff member at Harbor Hill School to show their appreciation for all they do.
“The true meaning of Thanksgiving was in the air as students crafted their messages,” said Ms. Hintermeister. “They were thrilled to write and hand-deliver each one.”
World Language Assemblies at Roslyn Elementary Schools
East Hills and Harbor Hill elementary schools each hosted a World Language Assembly for fifth-grade students to kick off their decision-making process about which language to study when they advance to middle school next year. World Language Chair Danielle Pappas, along with Spanish teachers Tami Cutler and Norell Agusti, Mandarin teacher Huichee Yeh, and French teacher Milva Franz, gave students a brief introduction to each language and taught them some new words and songs. Students had fun trying to speak foreign words and left the assemblies excited about learning a new language.
Diwali Celebrations
Students at East Hills and Harbor Hill learned about the celebration of Diwali: The Festival of Lights—India's biggest and most important holiday of the year.

Roslyn Middle School Hosts #BOOKFACE
Students at Roslyn Middle School participated in a national #bookface competition that culminated on Halloween. Students were invited to creatively pose behind a book so as to seamlessly extend the photo using their own faces or bodies.
Roslyn Middle School Hosts Virtual Visit with Kwame Alexander
The Roslyn Middle School library sponsored a virtual author study with Kwame Alexander, the best-selling, Newbery medal-winning author of The Crossover, The Door of No Return, Becoming Muhammed Ali, Rebound, and The Undefeated. Mr. Alexander treated students to a special virtual reading, book talk, and Q&A livestream event.
Holocaust Survivor Visits Roslyn Middle School
Roslyn resident and Holocaust survivor Rachel Epstein visited Roslyn Middle School to share her war experiences with the entire student body. Her visit was part of the ongoing RMS social studies curriculum.
RHS Chamber Singers “Let it Go” on Good Morning America
Roslyn High School's Chamber Singers class performed live on Good Morning America on Monday, November 27, 2023, alongside high school students from across the country, for an incredible ensemble performance of “Let It Go.”
RHS Alumni Brunch
Roslyn High School welcomed back over twenty alumni from the Class of 2023 on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 to share their college experiences with the senior class. They spoke about how prepared they felt upon entering college, what they found most challenging, and what they loved the most. Following the assembly, the alumni and seniors gathered in the cafeteria for a light brunch and a chance for one-on-one conversations.
Roslyn TV Launches First Show
Roslyn Television (RTV) launched their first show on Friday, November 17, 2023. It was produced by students in the Media Production Class. Click here to watch the inaugural production.
Royal Crown Players Perform William Shakespear's Twelfth Night
Roslyn High School’s Royal Crown Players staged three live performances of Twelfth Night—November 16-18, 2023—for the Roslyn community. Twelfth Night is celebrated for its humor, wit, and exploration of themes like love, identity, and the absurdity of human nature.
Tri-M Honor Society Induction
On Wednesday, November 8, 2023, twenty new members were inducted into Roslyn High School's chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society—an international organization made up of only the finest student musicians. The new inductees include: Kaitlyn Abraham, Ethan Berkowitz, Sarah Carlese, Sofia Carlese, Julia Chen, Lydia Choi, Carina Dai, Elyssa Ghalchi, Hannah Goldberg, Charles Lee, Corey Miller, Annabel Nussbaum, Gefen Portnoy, Davi Rozenberg, Darren Shen, Jialong Sun, Justin Wang, Shiloh Ye, Allen Yi, and Katelyn Zheng.
RHS Artist Wins First Place in 2023 Nassau County HS Juried Art and Competition
Ming Xi Zheng (aka Romy), a 10th grade student at Roslyn High School, was awarded first place for her painting entitled "Disguiser" in the Nassau County High School Juried Art and Competition.

RHS Girls' Volleyball Spike out Cancer
The Roslyn High School Girls' Volleyball Team hosted their Spike Out Cancer game on October 25, 2023. The game is held annually to raise awareness and to honor those who are battling, recovering, and have been lost to breast cancer. This year, the event was extra special for the team because their head coach, Tara Berkowitz, is currently battling cancer.
“The amount of love and generosity that I felt in the gymnasium during the game is something I will forever hold near and dear to my heart,” said Coach Berkowitz. “With the help of the team and the Roslyn community, I am ready to ‘fight the fight.’”
Tennis with the Teachers
Roslyn High School hosted Tennis with the Teachers on Wednesday, November 1, 2023. Players from the junior varsity and the varsity girls' tennis paired up with their teachers for a fun day on the courts. A number of Roslyn Middle School tennis players volunteered to help run the event—held in honor of Drew Hassenbein and Ethan Falkowitz, whose families were in attendance.
School Related Professionals Day
Nearly two dozen School Related Professionals (SRPs) from Roslyn High School gathered on November 21st in celebration of SRP Recognition Day. Each year, they are honored by New York State on the third Tuesday of November. This year's theme was Rise to the Challenge: Making a difference in our schools, workplaces, and communities, every single day. The day was created to honor the hard-working women and men who help educate, feed, and transport students, monitor their health, administer school offices, and maintain school facilities, providing a safe and nurturing environment for student-centered learning.
