TRIO Talent Search - A Partnership With Lynn Public Schools
Hello TRIO family!
This month is Black History Month. We hope you'll take the time to reflect on they myriad contributions the black community makes to our city and our country. And I hope our little community can work to make things more equitable and just for everyone.
Seniors, if you haven't finished your FAFSA now's the time. If you have finished your FAFSA you may want to consider looking for scholarships. Your TRIO advisor is here to help with that process.
Juniors, senior year will be here before you know it. Now may be a good time to start seriously considering schools you'd like to apply to and career paths you'd like to follow. The more prepared you are entering senior year, the less stressful it will be.
Sophomores and Freshmen, we're 2 quarters into the year. Keep an eye on those grades. Remember your GPA and class ranking are things that schools look at when considering your college applications. They also look at extracurricular activities. If you want to get involved come talk to your TRIO advisor.
Hope everyone is staying warm,
Your Talent Search Advisors

College Decision & Payment Tools
Check out the After the College Acceptance (ACA) resources for valuable guidance at mefa.org/collegebound. On this page you’ll find information about:
- After the College Acceptance webinars, which provide an explanation of financial aid offers, how to calculate the balance due at each college, and options to pay for college costs. Encourage families to register for one of our offerings.
- College Cost Calculator, which allows students to compare their financial aid offers and calculate the net cost of each school.
- Loan Payment Calculator, which shows details of different student loan options, including monthly payment amounts and total loan cost.
- Several other resources, including links to a sample financial aid offer, information about college payment plans, and tips for wise borrowing.
Regular decision applications: Confirm the application deadline for each school on your list. Complete and submit admissions applications through the Common Application or the school’s website. Submit your SAT scores through the College Board website. Use Naviance to request that your guidance counselor send your high school transcript to each school you are applying to.
FAFSA & CSS/Financial Aid Profile: Make sure all of the schools you are applying to are listed on your FAFSA application. If you have not done so already, complete the FAFSA with your TRIO Advisor. Most Massachusetts state schools (UMass Lowell, Salem State, etc) have financial aid application deadlines in February and March.
Scholarships: Begin to apply for scholarships posted in the guidance office, on Naviance, and online. Apply to as many scholarships as possible by the listed deadlines!
Get involved. Stay involved with your extracurricular activities and work toward leadership positions in the activities you like best. Become involved in community service and other volunteer activities.
Learn more about colleges. It is never too early to learn about college and the admissions process! Visit area colleges by participating in one of TRIO Talent Search’s monthly college field trips. Take virtual tours of colleges across the country using www.youvisit.com.
Stay on track with your classes. As you meet with your guidance counselor about next year’s schedule make sure you’re enrolled in the courses you need to prepare you for college or a career. For example, most colleges require three years of a foreign language. Also discuss taking more challenging courses such as Honors and AP classes.
Thinking About Your Future
