May Character Strong Trait
Creativity
Our Character Strong trait for the month of May is Creativity. Purposefull People define creativity is using your imagination to create something new or solve a problem. Here are some questions to ask at home:
- Is being Creative and using your imagination something you enjoy doing? Why or why not?
- How are you able to use Creativity to help you manage your stress?
Track and Field Day
Our Sunrise track and field day is scheduled for Friday, June 2. Our phy ed department is seeking volunteers to help out with the day. Please click on the link below to see the track and field schedule and learn more about the volunteer opportunities for that day!
Sunrise PTO
Volunteers, we need your help!
Staff Appreciation Week is May 8th-12th, 2023. The Sunrise PTO, with your help, is providing lunch from Jersey Mike's on Tuesday, May 9th, snacks throughout the week (starting May 9th) and breakfast on Thursday, May 11th. Jersey Mike's Subs has donated the sandwiches for lunch on Tuesday. Thank you Jersey Mike's! We are looking for help with snacks and the extras for the lunch. The sign-up for the breakfast on May 11th is included in the schedule.

May PTO Meeting
The next PTO meeting is scheduled for May 11. This meeting will be virtual. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Blaine Cluster Growth Recognition Awards
The district identified students who made significant growth over the past school year in the areas of math, reading, and language acquisition using the MAP, MCA, CogAT and ACCESS. Growth was measured by comparing performance on two of the same assessments in any of the three examined areas. Students demonstrating growth within the top five percentile at each grade level districtwide were identified. Of these identified students, those with highest growth at each school were invited for School Board recognition at the Anoka-Hennepin School Board meeting Apr. 24 to be recognized for the achievement:
Sunrise Elementary- Sullivan Mills, Yazid Usman, Sabir Wienis, Max Bjorklund, Mia Jackson, Mitchell Mensah, Addison Wilkerson, Anwar Ali, Ani Babur, Matthew Brewer, Lian Jann, Payton Piedade, Casey Siemback.
