Fall 2020 Newsletter

This fall, we kicked off school in an unusual way, with some sxsters back on campus, and other sxsters hundreds of miles away across the globe. But just like the beautiful turning of leaves ushered in by the chilling weather, our chapter has adapted our operations to flourish in our new circumstances as well. On a sunny, gorgeous Saturday morning, we gathered at Promontory Point and had a picnic on a blanket! The star of the show was our delicious charcuterie board, assembled on the spot with the help of quick creativity from our sxsters. We played a fun card game, listened to some jams, and took many cute photos under the pretty fall trees! This is definitely a sxsterhood event we'd all love to hold again, when the weather permits.

Our sxsters, including Pi and Rho class geos and neos, attended the virtual Zoom conference for MSR hosted by UIUC! We heard from speakers about sexual assault and harassment awareness, mental health awareness, and met new sxsters from other chapters through sxsterhood games like Jackbox Games and aKDPhi trivia Jeopardy. Even though we didn't get to travel this time around, we still had a good time!

Our wonderful VP Service, #91 Kelly "hikari" Chen, organized our BCA Zoom seminar and Kahoot trivia game! We had a big turnout and hopefully taught the audience some new things about breast cancer detection and treatment.

We also participated in a fundraising campaign with stamp card posts on our Instagram stories! The campaign was successful, bringing in a total of $545 in donations to breast cancer awareness organizations.

Who is the impostor? DISCUSS!! Our Social Chair, #93 Rebecca "Alectrona" Xiong and VP External, #89 Bailey "Courvoisier" Yu, planned a fun-filled evening of Among Us with our Lambda brothers! Tensions were high as accusations were thrown around and suspicion was casted on our crew members. It was great to see everyone really getting into the game!

Our Rush Chair, #93 Rebecca "Alectrona" Xiong, is in the works with planning for our modified Winter 2021 rush cycle! We held an informal Zoom info session and thanks to the recruiting efforts of our sxsters, we had many prospective members attend. We can't wait to see what the Winter rush cycle will bring!

While it may have been difficult to find the impostor, we definitely all found the sxsterhood and friendship among us! We had a great time unwinding and learning how to play this game of deception with our sxsters.
