Gables Weekly Summary

The 2022 Gables Talent Show is virtual. All Gators are welcome to participate by submitting a video to the FlipGrid link before 11:59pm April 10th. In your video:

• Introduce yourself - include your name, grade, and classroom;
• Show your stuff! Record and submit up to 2 minutes of video.

All videos will be presented in an online Talent Show Extravaganza Zoom on the evening of April 13th. Dust off your talent maker, and mark your calendars now!

Traffic is still heavy and dangerous around the school during pickup and dropoff. Consider signing up for a 30-minute shift in the morning or afternoon to assist our teachers in keeping our Gators safe by serving as a Corner Captain. Experienced volunteers are available the the first two weeks, so if you sign up during that time, you will have someone to work along side you to show how easy it is!

During the presentation on March 3, community partners presented summer opportunities during the first presentation:

-YMCA Summer Day Camps - for 1st-6th grade

-Adaptive Sports Connection (A Chapter of Disabled Sports USA)

-Columbus Metropolitan Library Summer Reading Challenge - can be done online

-First Tee - Central Ohio - summer registration will open after spring registration closes

Perseverance is March's Word of the Month. Perseverance is when we push ourselves to work through challenges to complete a difficult task.

We have a high number of unexcused absences right now - remember to notify the office when your child is unable to attend school during scheduled school days.

• The best way to report an absence is to email attendance.gables@columbus.k12.oh.us.
• Please email every day your child is absent to ensure a complete record. Include any doctor's school excuse notes if you seek medical help.
• If you prefer to call, call 1-380-997-6025 and leave a message. Avoid calling the main school line - it's extremely busy in the mornings! Leaving a detailed message is acceptable.

Gables PTA's Spring Flower sale started February 25. Important dates:

• March 11th: Last day to order flowers. The on-line sale ends at 11:59pm.
  
• Delivery date: May 13th

Prizes Gators may earn:

• Top Individual seller from k-2 and 3-5 will have a special lunch with Mrs. Lausch
• Top selling Classroom will receive a Pizza Party
• Any Gator that sells 10 or more items will be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift card

Don't forget to send an extra change of clothes to keep in your kid's cubby in case of accidents and messes. The school can accept donation of new socks, new underwear and gently-used sweatpants.

• School Choice for elementary schools is open now through March 31. Apply in the Parent Portal.

BlendED enrollment (CCS online school) and the middle school choice lottery are now closed.

March's Pathway Express partner is North Market (59 Spruce St, Columbus): Community partners and activities will be available on Saturday, March 12th from 9am-7pm at the North Market.
