St. Luke Weekly Memo
January 18, 2021
Chaplain's Corner
When we want to find information, technology at our fingertips. Remember back in the day when you had to go to the library to look it up in an encyclopedia, or thumb through a card catalog. The quest for information seems to be common throughout history.
In the gospel from this past Sunday John the Baptist was walking with his followers, and he proclaimed that Jesus is “the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29). Upon hearing this news the two men left John’s side to follow Jesus. Jesus was walking along and noticed he now had company. He asks them, “what are you looking for?” This question was meant to challenge them. It was in an invitation for these men to name their intentions and declare a purpose and direction for their actions.
We challenge you this week to pause and think about how your intentions and actions can be used as the feet and hands of Christ.

Pink Shirt Day
On February 24, 2021 Canadians will take a stand against bullying by wearing pink shirts to show their support for safe and inclusive schools, workplaces and communities. Our St. Luke School Community will be able to show their support by wearing pink on this day.
This year we have the opportunity to purchase pink t-shirts and/or hoodies through Staples. The logo on the shirt was designed by Jersmaih Peters, a Coast Salish artist from WSÁNEĆ. This is how he chose his design.
"I chose the thunderbird for their great strength and protection, the wings wrapped around the child's face, from the biggest hearts to the smallest."
The cost of the T- shirt is $10.00 and the cost of the hoodie is $25.00 including GST. One dollar from each t-shirt/hoodie sold will be donated to indigenous education and anti-bullying causes in Alberta. Any surplus from the sales will be used to support Catholic Social Services.
To Order: Refer to the size charts on the next page for the size you want to order and then place your order through Staples by emailing Gerald.Gumtang@staples.ca. Deadline for orders is Noon on Friday, January 22nd
Staples will be delivering all orders to the school. Once they have arrived at the school we will be distributing to the students.

Apple Schools
St. Luke has been asked to participate in an exciting research opportunity to understand the impact of school closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic on students’ mental health and lifestyle behaviours. This study is led by the University of Alberta in partnership with the APPLE Schools. It aims to understand what we can do to improve student supports offered by schools during and after school closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic and any future pandemics.
Students and parents with students in grades 4-6 will be asked if they would like to participate. More informaiton for parents and students in these grades will be sent out this week.
We thank-you in advance for your willingness to participate.
