SPEHS Black History Month
WHAT IS BLACK HISTORY MONTH AND WHY DO WE CELEBRATE IT?
Black History Month was created to focus attention on the contributions of African Americans in the United States and to acknowledge key figures from their past and present.
We celebrate Black History month to focus attention on the contributions of African Americans in the United States. It honors all Black people from all periods of U.S history, from the enslaved people first brought over from Africa in the early 17th century to African Americans living in the United States, today.
Why are we celebrating 50 Years of Hip-Hop this month
August 11, 2023 marked the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop. To honor the legacy and influence of this now global culture, SPEHS BSU have planned activities and events this month. The celebration of 50 years of hip-hop during Black History Month acknowledges its origin in the Bronx in the 1970s, highlighting its cultural impact globally, influencing music, fashion, language, and social movements!!
