Arrival: Cafeteria doors open at 7:20 am and school doors open at 7:40 am.

Classes start promptly at 7:50 am, students are tardy after 8:00 am.

Dismissal: School ends at 2:30 p.m. for Pre-K and 3:20 p.m. for Kinder-5th grade.

Pre-K dismisses at the back doors. All other classes dismiss in front.

De Zavala teachers and staff want to communicate with our families. The ways we do that are through Class Dojo and Parent Portal. If you need assistance downloading the apps or getting access, we are more then happy to help. Also, please feel free to call the school 817-814-5600.

Hello De Zavala Families,

One of the most important factors of a student’s academic success is their daily on time attendance. It is critical students are in school on time daily when healthy. When students are absent from school, he/she misses instruction. It can be difficult for a child to make up the instruction lost due to an absence or late arrival. Simply put, it’s hard for a child to learn if he/she is not in school. Along with daily attendance, students need to be on time daily. When a child is late to class, it actually affects the child along with the rest of the class. Any disruption in the instruction will affect the class schedule and flow of instruction.

We are excited to begin an incentive program to encourage and reward students for continuous daily attendance and punctuality. The FWISD start of school time is 7:50 AM. This means students must be in their seat ready to go at 7:50 AM ready for the day’s instruction. On Tuesday, October 11, we will begin the “Attendance Adds Up” incentive program outlined below.

· Students can earn a personal prize every 20 days of attendance without a tardy.

· The class can earn a class party with 17 days of classroom perfect attendance. Each day the entire class is present, they will color in the letter with the goal of coloring in the phrase

“P E R F E C T A T T E N D A N C E.” Once the phrase is complete, the class will earn a class party or incentive.

· Every six weeks, the class with the greatest number of perfect attendance days as a class will earn a free dress day.

· At the end of the year, all students with perfect attendance for the year will receive a medal at their awards ceremony.

· At the end of the year, the class with highest attendance percentage for the entire school will earn a class field trip. More details will be provided as we get closer to this date.

We want students eager and excited about attending school. Of course, we need your support and help in order for this program to be successful. The Attendance Adds Up will help students academically and really take ownership of their responsibility of attending school. Mrs. Jones' first grade is the winner of the six weeks attendance challenge with a whopping 98%! You and your class will enjoy the party they've worked so hard to earn! Great Job!

De Zavala Famiia, we absolutely need students to be here and in class on time. Per Fort Worth ISD's key early literacy indicators, only 24 percent of all 3rd grade students enrolled, are at the 3rd grade level. This means that every minute spent is school is a learning experience that is needed for growth. We want all our students to reach their full potential but that can only happen if they are here at school.

If your student is absent and sick, we need a note to excuse the absence. If your student is out longer then 2 days, we need a doctor's note. Three or more unexcused absences we will send a warning letter, five or more unexcused absences, we will have a meeting here at school to see what we can do to make sure your student is here and on time.

Begiining September 26th, we began tracking time spent on Lexia. Our goal is for each student to spend 60 minutes a week working on their targeted units. Lexia Leaders names and certificates will be posted and celebrated in each individual's classrooms. Certificates are earned by completing levels.

Classes will earn an "airplane" each week if every student meets their goal of 60 minutes on Lexia and if 80% of their students meet their targeted units.

Classes with the most "airplanes" at the end of the six weeks will win a treat.

Students who complete the whole program will win a Lexia Core 5 Reading medal and a Lexia Superstar t-shirt from the principal at the end of the school year ceremonies.

Students who have completed Lexia Core 5 will write a weekly book report from their library book or from MyOn. This will count as their units for the week.

Literacy is vital to success in learning, we and your students are working hard to get where we need to be. Please help us by having your students here in class and on time to make sure they are able to complete their units and their time on Lexia. It is so helpful and students are so proud of their progress!

Our third-grade teachers, Mrs. Bukowski and Ms. D. Jorgensen recently wrapped up their first Amplify unit and celebrated their students meeting their Lexia unit goals. The unit included Alice and Wonderland, and students were celebrated with a Wind in the Willows-themed tea party. Students and teachers dressed up, exhibited excellent table manners and used phrases like “splendid” and “pardon me,” as well as vocabulary from the unit, like “civil” and “ma’am.”

Per the Fort Worth ISD Saturday Learning Quest website, students who attended Saturday Learning Quest acclerated their learning and those who attended at least 70 percent of the time saw a marked improvement in reading and math. So the district decided to expand the program to include Kindergarten through 5th grade. What an awesome opportunity for our students! Enrollment is still happening and we would love to have all our wonderful De Zavala students attend.

This year we are offering students and staff one free dress pay day per month, for only $1! You can wear anything you like, as long as it's school appropriate. This month's free dress pass day s Tuesday, October 11th, so bring your money and wear what makes you happy!

We are showing our appreciation for Hispanic Heritage by having a theme week.

Monday: Flag Day: wear something with a Hispanic country's flag

Tuesday: Character Day: dress as your favorite Hispanic character, inventor or celebrity

Wednesday: Vaquero Ranch Day

Thursday: traditional Hispanic attire

We hope everyone participates!

Our Hispanic Heritage Celebration will be held on October 6th from 5 to 6 pm. We will have a brief PTA meeting and then will begin our musical performance, directed by Mrs. Dean. We did send out a parent letter to everyone and if you would like your child to perform please fill out and send it back in. She would also like our De Zavala family to know that for the performance each grade level will wear a particular color of shirt and jeans on the bottom, the colors will be as follows:

Kindergarten: Indigo (blueish purple)

1st: Blue

2nd: Green

3rd: Yellow

4th: Orange

5th: Red

If the shirt in that color has graphics please ensure that they are school appropriate, or the shirt can be turned inside out. Also if you do not have a shirt in that color please wear a white uniform shirt instead.

Last year it was standing room only, so make sure you get here early so you get a seat!

Our small school with a big heart had a wonderful turnout of our grandparents and families last month! We were so glad to see how many of our grandparents came out to support their students.

Progress reports and report cards are accessed through Parent Portal. We need all our families to be able to access their student's information. Please download the app, and if you need assistance, we are more then happy and able to assist you with that.

You will need your students ID number and we are happy to provide that to you. Once you have completed the application, we will access it and accept it once your information has been confirmed.

Wow! This fundraiser is going so well! At this time we only have 79 boxes of chocolate left to sell, with a week left to sell it. If you or a family member would like to purchase a box, let us know, they are 60.00 each, you can let your student's teacher know.

We will be having a fundraiser at Chuck E. Cheese located at Le Gran Plaza, 4200 South Fwy on October 7th from 3 pm to 9 pm. Look out for the flyers, they have some really great coupons. We look forward to seeing you there!

Tuesday, October 11th, we will be having our free dress pass for only $1.00! Please be sure your student is wearing school appropriate clothing.

We will be having our Kona Ice day on the 25th. Please make sure your student has their money so they can participate. Bus students can also purchase a Kona Ice, we will make sure they get out early enough to get one. The prices begin at $3.00 so your student needs to bring at least that much.

Hello I'm Mrs. Simmons, your Pre-K RP teacher. I graduated from Baylor University with a Child Development and Family Life Studies degree. I obtained my teaching certification from Texas Christian University. Early childhood is my passion! I celebrated 28 years of marriage to my husband, Jerry, and my daughter Whitleigh attends the University of Oklahoma. I love the color red, reading and football.

Hi, I'm Mrs. Villarreal and I'm Mrs. Simmons teaching partner. I have two grandchildren that attend De Zavala. My favorite sports team are the Denver Broncos and my dream vacation is to go to Hawaii!

Eagles on the Bus are recognized for their exemplary and safe behavior while on school transportation. Great Job!

Mrs. Volberg has been an excellent addition to our campus. She has helped our students in so many ways, not only in caring for them physically but also treating them and all of us with compassion and kindness. Thank you Mrs. Volberg! We are so glad to have you on our team!

Ms. Campos Flores is an amazing teacher! She is always willing to go the extra mile with her students and their families. She also goes the extra mile with our staff and is currently mentoring our other 5th grade teachers. Thank y ou so much Ms. Campos Flores, you are the best!
