Technology Tools in the Spotlight!
Blackboard Safe Assign
Blackboard SafeAssign is an integrated plagiarism prevention and detection tool. SafeAssign compares submitted assignments against the internet and several databases. This allows you to quickly identify areas that may have been plagiarized in each submitted assignment. Students can upload their document to SafeAssign via Blackboard or instructors submit the papers themselves using DirectSubmit. Learn more at http://tinyurl.com/kllez99
Tip- Allow the students the opportunity to run their paper through SafeAssign before submitting the final copy. This allows students to identify areas in their papers that may need to be cited instead of paraphrased.
ThingLink
ThingLink allows you to turn any static image into an interactive graphic. All you need to do is upload a picture and annotate parts of it with text, video, audio and other online media. The possibilities are endless for you and your students when you use ThingLink. learn more at https://www.thinglink.com and
https://www.thinglink.com/edu (free basic account for educators)
Tip: Use a photo to tell a story, label parts of equipment, explain formulas, introduce yourself, build interactive reports, map data, share current events, etc.
MS Notepad or Apple Text Edit
ave you ever copied and pasted text into Blackboard only to find out that it formatted funky, and you need to retype everything? Microsoft Word and other word processing programs often have underlying code that transfers with the text and confuses the text editor in Blackboard. One way to remove the underlying code is to copy and paste the text from Word/Pages into MS Notepad or Apple Text Edit. This action removes the underlying formatting and allows you to copy and paste the text in the editor to blackboard with little to no issues. To find MS Notepad select the star menu button > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad
Tip: This process works for applications other than Blackboard to include blogs, wiki pages, website editors, etc.
