Friendship Party
We will be having our Friendship Party on Wednesday, February 14th from 1:00-1:45. Here is information to help you and your child prepare. NOTE: The fourth-grade party time is different from other grade levels due to our AMPED schedule.
- Students will create/decorate a box to collect their Valentine's cards that will be passed out at the party. Students may use a shoebox, cereal box or other shipping box to decorate. This is optional and if a student does not decorate a box, they will be provided with a bag on the day of the party to collect cards.
- Valentine Cards/Treats - students may bring cards or treats to share with their classmates. These will be passed out by the child at our Friendship party. Please see the attached list of first names that might be helpful when preparing the cards. We ask that each child bring enough for everyone in the classroom. This is also optional but encouraged as this is a fun part of our party. If you have questions or concerns about this, please let me know.
If you intend on volunteering at the party or coming as a guest, please fill out the Google Form. The office staff will have your badge ready upon arrival.

Important Hickey Reminders
Attendance:
- Students are expected to be at school on time every day
- School starts at 7:40 a.m. and ends at 2:55 p.m. Gates close from the carpool and crosswalk area at 7:40am, so if you arrive at that time, you will need to take your child to the main office to sign them in.
- When your child is absent from school, please send a note or email to their teacher and to Diana Ruiz, our secretary.
Code of Conduct/Behavior:
We follow the 3 B's here at Hickey.
- Be Safe
- Be Responsible (Be responsible)
- Be Respectful
Dress code:
- If students wear jackets or hoodies, the expectation is that their hoods will be down (off their heads) when inside.
- If students wear shorts or skirts, they must be fingertip length. Clothing with spaghetti straps is not allowed unless a shirt is worn underneath. Bare midriff shirts are not permitted.
- These procedures and expectations ensure that each and every student has the opportunity to learn and develop to their full potential.
AVID
Hickey is a proud AVID campus. Check out the Hickey AVID Website for more information about this program.
Daily Reading at Home
As you know, students are expected to read for at least 20 minutes everyday after school. We recommend that you ask your child questions about their reading. Guided questioning helps students clarify a story and allows them to monitor their comprehension. Here is a link with possible questions you can ask according to the genre. Comprehension Questions

*The bell rings at 7:40 each morning. Instruction begins promptly at this time. If students are walking in the classroom after the bell has rung, they are missing important information about the day. Once in the classroom, students have to unpack and get settled. Arriving at 7:40 causes a bit of delay in their morning as well as missing their teacher's instruction. Students are allowed to enter the classroom at 7:25. Arriving earlier than 7:40 allows students to have plenty of time to use the restroom, unpack, and get settled for the day. We ask that you take this into consideration during your morning routine.*
