Wildcats and Families,
Reminder - there is no school on Monday, October 23rd.
The De Soto Wildcats Varsity Football team claimed the 2023 United Kansas Conference Championship on Friday, October 20th. The Wildcats completed their United Kansas Conference schedule with an undefeated record of 7-0. We will host Turner High School in the first round of the KSHSAA 5A Playoffs on Friday, October 27th. Congratulations and good luck, Wildcats!
DHS Cross Country competed in the KSHSAA 5A Cross Country Regional at Shawnee North Community Park in Topeka on Saturday, October 21st. The Boys XC team dominated the event on their way to a Regional Championship with 6 Wildcats placing in the top 17. Girls XC team placed 2nd, with 5 Wildcats in the top 22. Both teams qualified for the KSHSAA State Meet at Rim Rock Farms next weekend. Girls team members include Addison Gillespie, Brooke Bundt, Taya Swarts, Hope Marriott, Kat Meyer, Lily Neighbors, and Ava Dougherty. Boys team members include Vance Krudwig, Luke Swarts, Lyndon Budimliga, Luke Vogt, Harrison Purkey, Conner Jacober, and Collin Champlain. Good Luck, Wildcats!
The De Soto Cats in Action Leadership class has been hard at work planning our second annual Veterans Day Assembly. If you know a Veteran, we would love the opportunity to invite them to attend our assembly. Our goal is to honor as many Veterans as possible. If your Veteran is unable to be in attendance, please send in a photo for our slideshow. There is a flyer below with a QR code to sign up to attend. If you have any questions please direct them to mcfriday@usd232.org.
Several important events are coming up:
- October 23rd - Trivia Night: the DHS Drama program is holding a Trivia Night fundraiser. Information about how to sign up is below. The doors open at 5:30 pm.
- October 24th - Soccer Regionals: The first game of the KSHSAA 5A East Regional #4 has DHS hosting Turner High School at 6:00 pm. Passes are not accepted at this post-season event. Student tickets are $6, adult tickets are $8. Good luck, Wildcats!
- October 26th - WildCAT (formerly CLASS) Awards: 60+ students will participate in the Quarter 1 WildCAT Award Recognition Ceremony to be held during seminar, at 10:50 am in the De Soto High School Performing Arts Center.
- October 27th - Home Football: The Wildcats will host the Bears from Turner High School in the first round of the KSHSAA 5A playoffs on October 27th at 7:00 pm.
- October 27th/28th - Home Debate Tournament: DHS Debate will host a tournament at DHS.
- October 28th - Trunk or Treat: SAFE and the DHS Leadership class are organizing a Trunk or Treat from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the Lexington Trails MS parking lot. The flyer is below.
- October 28th - State Cross Country: The DHS Cross Country teams will compete in the KSHSAA 5A State Championship Race at Rim Rock Farms.
Semester final exams are scheduled to begin Monday, December 18th, and end Thursday, December 21st. Winter Break begins on December 22nd. If students have to leave town prior to or during finals week, they will need to work with the teacher to make up the final within two weeks of their return (not before).

A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO SUPPORT STUDENTS WHILE EARNING A LITTLE EXTRA INCOME
USD 232 is looking for one or more individuals to split a bus route that have either their LPN or RN licensure. We have some wonderful students with medical needs who are in need of either an LPN or RN to assist them while riding the bus to and from school. The hours are listed below and days to work flexible. Wichita State University Scholarship Competition
Applications are now open for Wichita State's annual scholarship competitions for the senior class of 2024! A variety of scholarships are awarded to competition participants, including three of the largest scholarships in Kansas! See link below for information and participation requirements for each competition. Students should be admitted to Wichita State by October 15 and submit scholarship competition materials by November 1 to compete.
