KINDNESS CERTIFIED SCHOOL
As a result of our school's active participation in The Great Kindness Challenge, we are delighted to be recognized as a Kindness Certified School. Our heartfelt gratitude to our Cooper staff and students for the positive impact you've made at our school, in our community, and in our world. Thank you for being such an essential part of this movement!
VALENTINE'S DAY
Valentine's Day is a great opportunity to encourage kindness & compassion. Although we don't host Valentine parties, we know how much our students enjoy sharing Valentine cards. Your child's teacher will provide some time for the children to "deliver" cards to their classmates. If your child would like to bring Valentine Cards to school, please keep the following in mind:
- Student Valentine Cards MAY NOT include candy or food items
- If a student wishes to give out valentine cards, they need to have enough for the whole class.
- The teacher may give out a class list with first names only, or students can simply sign each card without addressing it to a specific person.
MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORTS FOR THE COMMUNITY
CHPS has partnered with Care Solace to provide free Mental Health Supports to our students, staff, and families. The Care Solace team can quickly connect you to verified providers in our community. Click Here to connect with a care provider or contact your school counselor for more information.

READ ACROSS AMERICA
As we look ahead to Read Across America at the beginning of March, we are preparing for an author visit at Cooper School! Baptiste Paul is a Caribbean-born children’s book author. He is a native Creole/Patois speaker who enjoys sharing stories of his experiences with anyone who will listen. His debut picture book,The Field, was inspired by his childhood in St Lucia, and received starred reviews from Kirkus, The Horn Book, and Booklist. Baptiste’s stories are fueled by his passion for diversity, inclusion, and uninhibited jwe (play).
If you are interested in purchasing one or more of Baptiste Paul's books, please CLICK HERE for the PTA order form. Orders are due by February 20, 2024.
BLACK HISTORY READ IN
During the month of February, our students will be learning about how their families' cultures and traditions help to shape who they are today. On February 23, 2024 we will participate in a Black History Month Read In as honor Black and African American literature and writers. We would like to invite volunteers to read books about cultural identity to a class or grade-level. Students will also enjoy learning about how your personal experiences shaped you to become who you are today.
If you are interested in joining us, be on the look-out for a sign-up in the near future!

NJ STUDENT LEARNING ASSESSMENT CALENDAR (NJSLA)
The district spring testing calendar has been finalized and added to our school calendars. Keep in mind that health sleep and work habits make students feel more comfortable and perform better on assessments. These habits take time to develop.
This is a great time of year to consider the following questions:
- Is my child sleep getting 9-12 hours of sleep every night, including weekends?
- Is screen time (including TV, iPad, phone, etc.) limited to 2 hours per day?
- Is my child encouraged to eat plenty of fruits and veggies?
