As we prepare for the week ahead, we ask that you please review the following information:

We are excited to announce that we are going to be adding an additional Fifth Grade class next school year. Since this announcement is just now being released, the following admission provision has been made:

• Any current University School student who has a sibling entering fifth grade next year and who has not already applied for admission for the 2021-2022 school year may do so by Monday, May 3, 2021.

The Washington County School System and University School will continue administering the state-mandated High School End of Course (EOC) state assessments this week. All HS students taking Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry will need to report to school on Wednesday, April 28th to complete their math EOC. Testing on this day should be completed between 11:30-12:00 PM.

Federal and State Law states that every student be administered the same State Board approved standardized tests required of public school students in accordance with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015 and T.C.A. § 49-1-602 pertaining to district and school accountability.

The TCAP assessment is a fully aligned assessment that captures the depth and breadth of what students are learning--and have been learning--in the classroom every day. The information from this year’s assessment will provide educators, parents, and students with a perspective on how students are progressing academically compared to their peers across Tennessee, and better information about a student’s strengths, needs, and areas for growth.

Please do not schedule appointments on testing days and encourage your child to do well on the tests and help them at home by doing the following:

• Discuss the tests with your child. Talking about the tests will help ease your child’s worries and show him/her that you are interested.

• Make sure your child goes to bed early and gets plenty of rest. Students’ minds and bodies need to be ready for a full day of trying their best.

• Make sure your child eats a good breakfast. It is difficult for students to think and do their best if their stomach is empty.

• Arrive at school on time. Being late may cause your child to feel rushed and nervous. Arriving on time will help your child feel relaxed and ready to do his/her best.

• Send your child to school with words of encouragement. Hearing, “You can do it!” or “I have confidence in you!” from you means a lot to your child.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused schools to quickly realize the many benefits of outdoor learning spaces. We are fortunate to have resources like the ETSU Fitness Path in our backyard. However, the University School Foundation has a vision to increase these opportunities for our students, including an outdoor classroom, garden lab areas, and other open air learning opportunities.

This year, more than ever, your participation and donations matter! All money raised at the Blue & Gold Fun Run will go to support outdoor learning opportunities both this year and in future years for the students and staff of University School.

• Current University School Seniors are free, but need to pre-register.
• Current University School Juniors must purchase a ticket. Tickets can be purchased online for $15. Tickets can also be purchased at the door for $20.
• Guests who are not University School Juniors/Seniors must purchase a ticket.

GUESTS: Current University School Juniors and Seniors may bring one guest who is not a current University School Junior or Senior.

• If your guest is a University School Freshman or Sophomore, you need to list their name when you register and a ticket needs to be purchased.
• If your guest does not attend University School, you will list their name when you register, purchase a ticket, AND you need to turn in a completed guest permission form to Dr. Day by April 27th. Pre-registered Non University School guests must bring an ID to be admitted to prom. (paper copy available in the office or online https://www.etsu.edu/uschool/clubs/documents/university_high_school_prom_guest_form.pdf)

Masks will be required to be worn throughout the evening with the exception of when students are eating/drinking. Cookies and snacks will be available as well as water and tea. The DJ and dancing area will be set up on an outside patio with brick pavers - attendees should wear/bring appropriate shoes for dancing. (DJ and dancing will be inside if the weather is bad or too cold). There will NOT be a photographer at the event this year.

NORTHEAST REGION HEALTH DEPARTMENTS

ANNOUNCE COVID-19 VACCINATIONS

BY APPOINTMENT FOR RESIDENTS 16+

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Tennessee Department of Health Northeast Region county health departments are now booking appointments for individuals aged 16 and up who wish to receive COVID-19 vaccinations. The Northeast Region includes Carter, Greene, Hancock, Hawkins-Church Hill, Hawkins-Rogersville, Johnson, Unicoi and Washington Counties.

The Northeast Region county health departments offer COVID-19 vaccinations by appointment. To book your appointment, visit Vaccinate.tn.gov and click the blue “Proceed to COVID-19 questionnaire” button at the bottom of the page to start your registration. When scheduling appointments by the online portal, make sure to search all locations in the county for appointment availability. Most vaccines are given at sites that are not at the local health department. Please see attachment for vaccine sites. If you need help scheduling your vaccination, please call the Northeast Regional Registration Line at (423) 979-4689. The

Registration Line is staffed Monday-Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Pfizer vaccine has been authorized for ages 16 and older. Moderna vaccine is currently authorized for ages 18 and older. Please call the NE Registration Line at (423) 979-4689 to register 16 and 17 year olds for a Pfizer vaccine site.

The Northeast Regional Health Office reminds all residents that in addition to vaccinations, wearing a face mask, maintaining social distance and getting tested when exposed or sick are critical to controlling the pandemic.
