EVG's Biweekly Update
Building a Better World, One Student at a Time
Week of September 27, 2022
Dear EVG School Community,
I want to wish a Happy New Year to our families who celebrated Rosh Hashanah. I hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather this weekend. Thank you all for attending Back to School Night! The staff and I are looking forward to a great school year. Many exciting events are happening in the upcoming weeks. There is a PTO meeting this Wednesday night. Students in grades 4-6 will also begin to take the Start Strong Assessment. In addition, we will celebrate the Week of Respect during the first week in October. Please see the flyer below for more details.
Fall Picture Day will be held this year on October 11th. Order forms will be sent home in the upcoming days.

EVG Happenings
EVG Awarded A Grant
EVG was recently awarded a STEAM Grant from GCP Applied Technologies in North Bergen, New Jersey. The grant was used to purchase a set of 25 Choir Chime handbells valued at $1,600. These handbells will be used to teach musical intervals, scale degrees, musical notation, and acoustics, reinforcing creative skills that are vital to STEM careers.

Siobhan Tauchert, Superintendent
Kyungun Rhee, Music Teacher

Third Grade Writers
The third graders have been learning about biographies and autobiographies. After reading an example of a biography, students worked in pairs to think about questions they would ask if they were writing a biography.
Fourth Grade Scientists
Our fourth grade scientist took part in a Gummy Bear Experiment. They developed and tested hypostheses to see what happened to gummy bears when placed in several different solutions.
5th Graders
In Social Studies class, 5th graders used Scholastic News to discuss current events.
Hispanic Heritage Month
EVG celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15th to October 15th. Students will participate in different learning experiences and classroom read-alouds celebrating Hispanic Culture.
