Eagle Time and Eagle Groups
You might hear your student talk about Eagle Time or Eagle Groups and you wonder what this means. Each grade level has Eagle time on full school days. All students in the grade level go to a group that is for their learning needs in either reading, math, social/emotional learning, or sometimes a combination of these areas.
Maybe you also hear your student talking about FastBridge tests. These tests are what we give all students across the school three times a year to make sure we get them the right Eagle Time group to meet their learning needs. For students in grades 2-5, many of these tests are on a computer. For students in kindergarten and first grade, they are given one on one by a Salish Coast staff member.
This past week students have been taking FastBridge tests. While staff are giving the FastBridge tests, Eagle Time Groups don’t meet, so staff can get the tests completed. After the testing, all teachers meet to work together to fit students into the correct Eagle Time groups.
Your student will be starting Eagle time groups again after we get back from winter break. Your student might be in the same group, or if the testing shows their needs changed, they may be in a new group. If you have questions about Eagle time or FastBridge testing, please contact your child’s teacher.

New Program Starting at Salish Coast Elementary: Transitional Kindergarten
There is a new program starting at Salish Coast Elementary on January 31st, 2022. This program is called Transitional Kindergarten. It is a program for students who are eligible for kindergarten in the 2023-2024 school year. It includes students who turned five years old on September 1st, 2022 or later, and students who are four years old and will turn five years old on or before August 31, 2023.
Our Transitional Kindergarten Teacher will be Sheri Shaw, who many of you know as your student’s Physical Education Teacher. Prior to teaching PE, Ms. Shaw, taught young children as a classroom teacher. Joining her is Naomi Horner, who will be the Transitional Kindergarten Paraeducator. Naomi has a degree and early childhood education and also has a variety of experiences working with young children.
