Greetings from HMS
Aspen Family Portal
We are very excited to announce that in an effort to assist families in monitoring children’s progress, enhance communication with families, and further promote the academic progress of all of our students, the Hingham Public Schools is pleased to provide access to student records through the Aspen X2 Family Portal for grades K-12.
This newly enabled feature of Aspen will greatly increase the ease of use for families, allowing parents and caregivers to access multiple children's information with one simple log-in.
Please check your email on May 3rd for the username and password and information on how to log in, and feel free to contact us with any questions.
Ladies and Gentlemen, Start Your Engines!
On Tuesday, April 25, eighth grade Tech Ed students participated in a CO2 Egg Car Championship. The winners from every class raced against one another in the cafeteria to determine a school champion. The goal was to make the fastest car possible while maintaining the safety of an egg "passenger".
All of the participants did excellent, but Cooper Nightingale ended up stealing the show. After losing to Gus Doggett for speed in three consecutive races Cooper ended up winning the championship because he had an unbroken egg while Gus's cracked.
Congratulations and well done to all of the participants.
Movin' On Up!
Hingham High School counselors are hosting the Class of 2027 for a first-time event: Ninth Grade Move Up Day!
The Class of 2027 will have the opportunity to tour HHS, hear from upperclassmen about the daily life of a high school student, and have their questions answered. The ninth grade move up day is June 8th, 9:30 - 12:30 at HHS.
Lunch will be provided.
We are looking forward to what we are sure will be a great day!
Project 351 Update
Hello HMS!
Congratulations!
As a school, we donated a total of 372 pieces of clothing to children in need through Cradles to Crayons. That’s about 18 bags! With an additional 9 bags from the high school, Hingham impacted 81 kids!
In all of Project 351, 267 towns, including Hingham, impacted the lives of 19,698 children around the state.
Way to go!
I am so thankful for the support I received from everyone in our community and I hope we can give next year’s ambassador just as much support!
Thank you!
Nora Christofferson- 8th-grade 351 Ambassador
Thanks to all who helped make Civics Week such a great success for our grade eight students. Whether here or in DC, our students were able to take part in memorable and educational experiences.
Reminder: Town Elections will be held Saturday, April 29. Every Vote Counts!
Great Expectations
Students from Team Barracuda completed their study of Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations, with incredibly creative interpretations of symbols and motifs throughout the novel. Students created some wild and grotesque versions of Miss Havisham’s wedding cake, explored the use of stars as imagery, created collages for Estella, designed models of Satis House, and depicted the clocks, all stuck at 8:40 in the morning. We even had a model of The Hulks, or prison ships.
Amazing work done by all!
A Sticky Science Situation
Have you ever wondered how buying candy that contains palm oil affects orangutan and other animal populations? Barracuda students have been working collaboratively to create a model of the Indonesian rainforest ecosystem to work towards creating a solution to this problem!
At the same time, scientists on Team Great White Sharks are tackling the same issue . . .
Remaining Silent to Help Give Others a Voice
The Day of Silence was a successful event at HMS on Friday, April 14th. The Day of Silence is a student-led demonstration where LGBTQ+ students and allies all around the country and the world take a vow of silence to protest the harmful effects of harassment and discrimination of LGBTQ+ people in schools. Students were provided with a notepad with a Hingham pride cling, a progress flag, and optional information sheets to pass out. Students chose to "break the silence" at the end of the day before dismissal.
Great job to all the students who's work was on display at Hingham High School for the District Wide Art Exhibition. The high school has never looked so good!
Week-at-a-Glance and After School Opportunities
Please take a look at the attached Week-at-a-Glance document to get an idea of what we have to offer next week, as well as our comprehensive list of activities, when they usually occur, and how to obtain additional information about them.
We also want to remind students and families that we provide late buses for students staying after school on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
Please remember to pay your activity fee if your middle-schooler plans to take part in these programs.
We hope to see you after 2:00!!!

PTO News
Help Wanted!
The HMS PTO is looking for help!
The current board is composed of parents of students who will be moving on to high school come next fall, so we are in need of new leadership!
We are looking for three to four volunteers to fill out the board as we already have a PTO Treasurer for next year. Volunteers help with fall grade level events and oversee chairs for staff appreciation and mini-grants.
It’s a fun, but not large commitment and a great way to get involved at the middle school.
Please consider taking on one of these important positions.
Anyone interested can contact Kate Newth at katenewth@hotmail.com
Thank you for your support!

HEF is working non-stop behind the scenes to enrich the quality of education for all children within HPS. We hope you will join us next Friday, May 5th at our Spring fundraiser and relive the glory of Spring Breaks past, all while raising money to support HEF and the work we do for our children's education.

Set Sail with Hingham Maritime
Hingham Maritime Center is a non-profit organization that seeks to provide "Boating For All". Our center allows for youth and adults to enjoy the watersports of rowing and sailing on the protected waters of Hingham Harbor. You don't have to choose sailing or rowing; you could give both a try. For example, our Intro to 420 sailing class 9:45 am-12:15 pm could be followed up with a 1:00pm-2:15pm youth rowing class. Whichever you choose, we can assure you there will be water-based fun involved. Too choppy to row? No wind for sailing? Our new paddleboards will ensure that we can play in even more conditions. Join us this summer and find out for yourself what a joy life on the water can be.
