Character Trait of the Month
Our Character Strong trait for September is RESPECT. Check out what each grade level is working on!
A Message from the Principal
Hello Hoover Families,
Our students and staff are settling in as we wrapped up the second week of school. Time was spent teaching/reviewing and practicing routines/procedures in school, and how to be a successful student. Here is a link to our Hoover Common Spaces Expectations to review with your student(s) at home.
This week, we start our fall MAP reading assessments for students in grades 2-5 and MAP math assessments will continue next week. This baseline data will provide our teachers vital information to plan our instructional practices to support all students in their academic growth. Classroom teachers will share with families when students are testing. We appreciate your help in ensuring students are arriving at school on time with a good night's rest, especially on those testing days.
Tuesday, September 19th will be the LAST day to order your Hoover Spiritwear, including the grade-level colored t-shirts for students to wear at assemblies, field trips/experiences and Track & Field Day. Click HERE to order!
Best,
Mrs. Strusz
Important Reminders
- Return the red Take Home Folders daily back to school. If you would like a replacement, the cost is $3. Please let your student's teacher know.
- Parents/Guardians picking up students at the end of the day, please remember to have your neon green signs in the passenger window, so our staff can have your students ready to enter your car quickly. If you need a new sign or more signs to give out to family members picking up, please let your student's teacher know. We thank you in advance for helping us make the pick-up process go smoothly.
Review the Hoover Student/Family Handbook. There are updates to the following items this year at Hoover (aligned with the district's guidelines). Cell Phone, Smart Watches, and Electronic Devices (pg. 13) and Classroom and Birthday Celebrations (pg. 12).
Anoka-Hennepin asks that ALL families complete an online application to provide additional school funding to support all students in the district. By filling out this application, your school can earn funding and you can save money. Families may be able to access other educational benefits available to your student, please visit ahschools.us/freereduced to complete an application.
Daily Drop-Off/Pick-Up Procedures
- Stay in your car and keep pulling forward. Students will walk to your car with the guidance of staff.
- Have students exit/enter your vehicles on the passenger/sidewalk side to avoid walking in the parking lot. I know this part is not easy due to many factors (other children in the car/carseats, etc), but this is very important for safety reasons.
- Please park first if you want to walk your student to/from the main door. Do not exit your car while in the drop-off/pick-up line. Do not have your student cross traffic to walk to you in the parking lot.
- When exiting the parking lot during arrival/dismissal times, please ONLY TURN RIGHT. This is to keep the traffic flow moving smoothly and to keep staff directing traffic safely.
- THANK YOU for your help with this process to keep our students and staff safe!
Fall Book Fair - Online Purchasing is Available Now!
We will be having a book fair during fall conferences. The online book fair is now open. Books that are purchased online will be shipped to Hoover 7-10 days after the in-person fair is over. Families also have the option to purchase books off a teacher created wishlist online or to buy gift cards. Any books purchased help us be able to buy new books for the library.
Reach out to Ms. Walker, Media Specialist, with any questions at Kristin.Walker@ahschools.us.
Building Renovations/Construction Updates
Media Center: Hopefully you were able to check out our newly renovated media center at Open House. If not, here are some pictures of the whole process - from start to finish. We are so thankful that this project was completed in time for the start of school!
Solar Panels: This project started with materials being dropped off on our rooftop a couple of weeks ago. Last week, the installation of the solar panels started. The next two phases will be the electrical/wiring and then working with Excel to "turn" everything on. Click here for pics.
New Playground: Unfortunately, this project was pushed back to the end of October. I will keep you posted as more information is shared with me. Staying positive this will be completed before winter is here.
New Electronic Sign at the Parking Lot Entrance: This project looks like it may have to wait until the spring. The district is finalizing approved specs and vendors.

National Hispanic Heritage Month
Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100-402.
The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September18, respectively. Also, Columbus Day or Día de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30 day period.
