Extra Points : Coach Pomazak's Message
The holiday season is in full throttle and like many of you, the Pomazak dance card is quickly filling up. For a person like me who does not like idle time, the holidays provide numerous distractions and opportunities to enjoy the spirit of the season. I have always been fascinated by the holidays from a sociological perspective. It shows the power of the human spirit and the enormous force of a collected belief. I am not talking about religious belief more so than the belief that the holidays are a time of reflection, giving, and goodwill towards all mankind. As a program leader, one of my visions is to connect our program to the community. The holidays provide ample opportunities. This coming Saturday our program will be coming together to help sort toys for the Toys - for - tots campaign. It is a fantastic mission set up through a couple in Batavia that utilizes the community to help provide underprivileged families with the gift of a holiday experience. I encourage all families and friends to take 2 hours or even 1 hour to come out and get into the season of giving. I always feel a sense of belonging to a higher purpose when I am giving, my goal is to spread that will to our entire football family.
As the year comes to a close, our program will be switching its gears to the winter preparation season. I try to not to call it the "off-season". In all honesty winter is just as busy as the season itself. In the months of June through November the focus is obviously on winning a state championship. The months from Decemeber through May the focus is a bit more varied but still provides plenties of long hours. The "off-season" focus for our program is 4 fold, we call it our 4 quadrant development. Here is what it looks like.
* Physical - sports performance training for our out of season athletes
* Mental- player 1 on 1 meetings building the relationships off the field that will build us on.
* Technical- player evaluations and goal setting. Giving our kids the map to improvement.
* Tactical- communicating to our kids what we believe their strengths are and developing them.
This is just the tip of the iceberg in or player development plan and it doesn't include the recruiting process or leadership development that will begin. Needless to say, we are working year round as football family, it is special and I love it.
All the best
Coach Pomazak
