Potential Field Trip on Sunday 10/1 - If Interested, Please Read and Respond
With the Penn State Blue Jam not happening this year, other opportunities for possible field trips we could take as a band have been researched. The one that seems the most feasible is the Collegiate Marching Band Festival.
The Collegiate Marching Band Festival occurs at J. Birney Crum Stadium (the largest high school stadium in Pennsylvania), in Allentown, every fall. The annual festival includes 20 college marching bands from Pennsylvania, Delaware, Connecticut, Massachusetts, West Virginia, and Maryland performing for an audience of exclusively marching band fans. Each band performs their halftime show for a truly appreciative audience. If we choose to take this trip, we will not be performing. We would be attending as spectators and this would be a great chance for everyone to see the sheer diversity in college marching bands across the northeast. Many of these bands are from colleges and universities that you might be studying at and could be a part of in the future! In addition to the show performances, several of the colleges and universities have booths at the stadium where you can purchase merchandise from each respective school, meet with recruiters, and pick up some free goodies from the college/university's bands. Think of it like a career fair, only for college/university marching bands. Even further, the event has concession stands with food and drinks available. The entire event is outside.
If you'd like to see which colleges'/universities' bands will be performing, check out the event's website here:

If we were to go on this trip, it is far enough away that we would need to take a charter bus. The tentative itinerary for the day is below:
Sunday, October 1st
8:45am Depart PVJSHS
11:30am Arrive at J. Birney Crum Stadium
12pm Festival begins, enjoy 20 college marching band's halftime shows
5pm Festival ends and reload bus, stop somewhere en route for dinner
8:30pm Return to PVJSHS
Unfortunately, this cannot be a free trip because of how far away it is... So here's the price breakdown per person:
$15 Ticket into the event ($0 for any sibling or child under the age of 5)
$35 Charter bus transportation
$10 Subway/Jersey Mike's/other catered lunch (sandwich, bag of chips, cookie), this is optional
$60 Total
In order for this trip to be feasible, we would need at least 50 people to go on the trip to justify the cost of the charter bus. The 50 people would include students, parents/families, and staff members. This is not a required trip. If you already have a commitment on Sunday 10/1 or simply don't want to go on this trip, that is okay. You don't need to do anything at this point.
If you (and or family members) are interested in attending this trip and are willing to pay the $60 to ride the bus for it, please sign up for it by filling out the interest form by clicking the embedded link:
