Superintendent's Update - 12.23.2022
Dear CPS Community,
The much-anticipated vacation week is here, and the hustle and bustle of the holiday season are upon us. Many families began observing Hannukah celebrations on the eve of December 18th, others will be celebrating Christmas on the 25th, Kwanza on the 26th, and New Year’s is right around the corner. Whether or not you are celebrating, I hope you will be able to take some time to rest and spend time with family and friends this week and have a wonderful start to the new year.
As you are thinking about turning the calendar over to January, I would like to inform you of a small adjustment to the current 2022/23 school year calendar. In preparing for 2023, it was noticed that our April 13, 2023, professional development half-day needs to be adjusted. Since McCarthy Middle School is one of the town’s centralized voting locations, professional development days are typically scheduled on election days to minimize access to the McCarthy Middle School building and to alleviate parking and traffic congestion that can potentially impact the function of the school day. Currently, our April professional development day for the 2022/23 calendar is not in alignment with the annual town election day on April 4, 2023. After discussions with the administration, we decided that the April professional development half-day day should be changed to align with the annual town election day and requested the school committee adjust the current year’s school calendar. This change for the current school year calendar was voted on and approved by the school committee at the December 20, 2022 meeting. The new date for the professional development half-day in April will be Tuesday, April 4, 2023. Please see the updated 2022/23 school calendar reflecting this change on our website.
While you are weathering the storm, please enjoy the highlights in this week’s newsletter. I will be back in touch after the new year. As a reminder, schools will reopen on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.
Yours truly,
Jay Lang, Ed.D.
