A final note from the Board: Farewell Mrs P
Ako ki te whakairo - Learning to think… Ako ki te mahi – Learning to do… Ako kia
ora ai te mauri – Learning to be.
It was announced earlier this year that our wonderful Principal, Karen Patterson will
be finishing in her role as Tumuaki of Inglewood Primary School at the end of this
year. This is a decision she did not take lightly and one I know she didn’t really want
to make, after all she wholeheartedly loves her job – and not many people can say
that after working in the same place for 20 years.
Karen’s two decades of service at Inglewood Primary School is a milestone in
education – especially in today’s world. She was the first female Principal and - at
14 years in this role - is one of our longest serving Principals to date. This is a testament to
her commitment and her passion for our community.
She has been a champion of many things at IPS: firstly, and most importantly, the
tamariki, the ākonga. Our fabulous grounds with our tomokanga, pou, and murals,
as well as our new buildings, are a lasting legacy of her outstanding financial
management, vision and tenacity. Our REACH values were championed by her
along with students who can say they made a difference with her guidance. Our
whanau hubs are a pedagogical gem, demonstrating her commitment to empowering
young people and harnessing their energy for both their own benefit and the benefit
of their peers. These hubs use the tuakana-teina approach – because the best way
to understand new learning is to teach that new something to someone new. A
precious tāonga.
Karen has led with perseverance, clarity and kindness. She loves our children and
our Inglewood community and everything she does is through that lens. It has been
an honour to work with her on the board and have her as our Tumuaki - our principal.
We deeply appreciate you Karen and all that you have done for IPS and our
community. We know this is not goodbye, it is a change in relationship as we know
you will still be working hard for others, for education and for our community.
Farewell Tuawahine - Ako ki te whakairo - Learning to think… Ako ki te mahi –
Learning to do… Ako kia ora ai te mauri – Learning to be.
Chris Dalliston – Acting Board Chair.

TERM 1 2024 ENROLMENT
Enrolment at Inglewood School is governed by an enrolment scheme, details of which are available on the school website or from the school office.
The board is now inviting applications from parents who wish to enrol their children at Inglewood Primary School starting within Term 1 2024.
All applications must be received by 3pm Monday 22 January for Term 1 2024. If a ballot for out of zone places is required, it will be held on Wednesday 24 January 2024. Parents will be informed of the outcome of the ballot within three school days of the ballot being held.
The board has determined that 20 places from Year 1-8 are likely to be available for out-of-zone students within Term 1 2024. The exact number of places will depend on the number of applications received from students who live within the school’s home zone. Parents of students who live within the home zone and intend enrolling their child at any time during the year should notify the school to assist the school to plan appropriately.
The application form for enrolment is available from the school website, or from the school office.
Please note, that if the number of out-of-zone applications exceeds the number of places available, students will be selected by ballot. Parents will be informed of the outcome of the ballot within three school days of the ballot being held.
Details relating to the next enrolment period Term 2 2024 will be published March 2024.
2024 STATIONERY LISTS
FIRST DAY BACK 2024
Monday, 29 January 2024
8:00 AM to 11:00 AM
12:00 PM to 4:00 PM
We love our new way of strengthening our home-school partnership.
We start this off with a "Learning Transition Partnership Day" which will be Monday 29 January. On this day we will be having 15 minute slots with each student and family in their homeroom class.
This time slot is about informing the 2024 teacher of anything they will need to know about your child, socially, wellbeing, learning difficulties, or special talents and skills they may have. We will learn about your child's and family's strengths and ideas you may have to contribute to learning opportunities at school.
Our teachers will be focused on each family, listening, and planning for a successful 2024. We encourage all families to attend, even if you or your child knows their 2024 teacher. Our feedback has highlighted that this is a fantastic opportunity to have a positive transition into our new school year. We look forward to seeing you.
This event is being held in different locations depending on the teacher. Check your timetable after you've confirmed your bookings to find where your bookings are being held.
Each booking is 15 minutes long. Please ensure you arrive on time to each booking.

The Queen of Snow by Morgan Vickers
I was limping in the snow where the shade was, watching the Queen of Snow shivering from the cold breeze while my coat was keeping me warm.. I could taste the snow melting in my mouth as I was struggling to keep walking without water but I forced myself to keep walking. As we got closer to the castle, I could smell the burning fire. I looked at the Queen again, noticing she saw me and was calling me over to her. She said “come on buddy, I can't hurt you, please come out. When we got to the drawbridge I slowly walked over to her. The first thing she noticed was that I was limping and scooped me up. I was so scared! I shivered and all the snow fell off me. She gazed at my snowy white-ish blue coat and brought me inside.
