Juniors Have Free Access to ACT Online Prep
On Monday, November 18 all junior students received a personal user name and password to the ACT Online Prep website. This is a great resource to be used in preparing for the ACT Plus Writing assessment which will be given to all of our juniors students on April 23 during school. Sophomores Received Plan Scores
All tenth grade students received the PLAN assessment score reports during homeroom on Monday, November 18. The packet is full of great information which should be used for future academic planning. HGHS Athletes Sign to Play at the Next Level!
Congratualtions to Lewis Sullivan and Sarah Adams! Lewis has signed to play basketball for the UAB Blazers, and Sarah will be playing softball at the University of West Florida!
A Good Day for HG Cheer!
All Hazel Green teams finished in the top 5 at the Wallace State competition on Saturday, including the basketball cheerleaders (pictured) who competed in the High School Dance Division. Great job, girls!

The next Junior Civitan meeting will be on December 17th. Attendance at the 7:30 A.M. or 3:05 P.M. is mandatory. Also, items for goodie bags are due to Mrs. Barnes by November 22nd. Iron Bowl Prayer Breakfast - FCA is sponsoring a prayer breakfast on November
22nd (6:15-7:30 am). The event will feature guest speakers from Alabama and Auburn, door prizes and Chick-fil-a breakfast! Cost is $10.00. See Coach Givens if you'd like to attend.
If you are interested in trying out for the HGHS Colorguard (Flag Line), there will be a mandatory interest and parent meeting on Thursday, December 5th at 6:00PM in the band room. If you can't make this meeting, please see Miss Odom for details.
Parents, please take a moment to complete the Speak Up Survey. Speak Up is the only national education research project that provides stakeholders a voice in national education policy and also gives us valuable feedback that can be used in our local planning and decision-making. Breakfast with Santa & Christmas Boutique will be on Saturday, December 14th in the HGHS Cafeteria. If you are a local artist or craftsperson and would like to rent a space from us for our Christmas Boutique, please email the Theatre Boosters President Lisa Wilmes at lisasbiz@bellsouth.net, for more information. The Christmas Boutique will run from 7:00am to 3:00pm, and the Breakfast with Santa will be from 7:00am to 11:00am. Tickets to the breakfast with Santa are $5. Tickets for sale through Theatre students or at the door on the day of the event.
The December HOSA meeting will be held Tuesday, December 3rd (am and pm). Fundraising money will be due at this meeting. HOSA will be visiting Nursing Homes to sing Christmas carols to the residents on Thursday, December 12th. Following the caroling they will have the Christmas party in Mr. Ebert's room.

Mountain Brook High School will host the Birmingham Tip-Off Club's first "Steel City Invitational" at Samford University's Pete Hanna Center on December 19-21. Only 16 of Alabama's most elite high school programs were invited to participate in the tournament, including our very own Hazel Green Trojans! Special Programs
2014 Alabama American Legion Oratorical Contest - High school students are eligible. Over $138,000 in scholarships are awarded each year. The contest will be held on January 11, 2014 at the Huntsville area Post 237.
MDA Target...? College! is a bi-monthly forum designed for parents, school site personnel and community leaders. It focuses on delivering important information to adults engaged with students in Grades 6-12, with hope that their support will assist students' collegiate preparation and pursuits. On November 19, 2013, from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., they will discuss "Finding a College and Paying for College" in the Chan Auditorium, Business Administration Building, University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH). The event is free and open to the public.
There will be a US Naval Academy Information Meeting at Huntsville Public Library (Main) on November 24th from 2:00-5:00pm for all students (middle school through high school) and parents who want to learn more about the Naval Academy and becoming an officer in the Navy and Marine Corps. The meeting will feature current Midshipmen and Hazel Green alumni Tory West.

National Career Development Association’s (NCDA) 48th Annual Poetry & Poster Contest The theme is "Charting the Course for the Second Century". There were 11 national contest winners from Alabama in last year's contest. Winning entries from last year are displayed on the NCDA website http://ncda.org/aws/NCDA/pt/sp/ncdmonth All entries must be submitted to the State Coordinator, Lynn Boyd, and postmarked by December 5, 2013. Huntsville Hospital Athlete of the Week – Recognition for students who not only excel as athletes but also excel in the classroom and in the community. Applicants must be seniors with at least a 3.5 GPA and include a photo with the application. Athlete of the Year will be chosen from the Athletes of the Week to receive a $1000 scholarship. Permanent Announcements
Procedure for Riding the Bus with a Friend - Any student who plans to ride home on a bus with a friend or to another address should follow the procedures below. No student will be allowed to ride to a different address without verification of parent/guardian approval by a school official.
1. A parent/guardian note should be turned in before first block to the receptionist desk at the back of school. The note should contain the address and information for the bus driver and should include the date and a correct phone number for verification purposes.
2. Pick up the verified note from the receptionist during lunch.
3. Give the note to the bus driver when entering the bus at the end of the school day.
First Priority/FCS meets every Tuesday morning at 7: 20 in the Choir Room. All students are welcome to attend.
Parenting Assistance Line: PAL is a service where anyone can call a toll free number 1-866-962-3030 and receive useful, practical information and assistance with developmental and parenting questions and concerns. Available 8:00am – 8:00pm (central time) Monday – Friday.
Recycle: Going green at “the Green”. The Hazel Green High School Special Education Department needs your old cell phones and ink cartridges. Items to be recycled can be given to a Special Education teacher or left for collection at the office. Your support of our recycling fundraiser is greatly appreciated.
Reward Cards: Parents/Students/Employees, please remember to use your reward cards when you visit Publix and Hazel Green Pharmacy. Every time you have them swipe your card, HGHS will receive a portion of the sale. If you need a reward card, just stop by the main office to pick one up.

Driver’s permit: Students /Parents, remember to pick up the Student Enrollment Form before you go to get your permit. The driver’s license department will not allow you to take the test unless you have this form and it cannot be faxed after you get there. These forms are good for 10 days only.
Loyalty Reward Tags: (Hazel Green Pharmacy Loyalty Key Tag Program) Parents/Students/Employees, please remember to use your loyalty key tag when you visit Hazel Green Pharmacy. Every time you purchase a Prescription/Gift/OTC have them swipe your tag. HGHS will receive a portion of the sale. If you need a loyalty key tag. Just stop by the main office to pick one up.
