Friday Message
We have had a busy week. As I have mentioned previously, a high school in the spring is in constant motion. You will see from the pictures below we have students and staff going everywhere...and we aren't even at full speed yet. The Fillies, choir, theatre, band, track, baseball and softball are getting geared up for competitions soon. Shoutout to all of the honors and awards our students received in the past week (pictures below). Currently, we are in the middle of our "programs fair". Any program offered at our school (CTE, Fine Arts, Advanced Academics, etc.) is set up during lunches today to offer your child information so they can make informed decisions during course selection that will begin for juniors next week (full schedule below).
Reminders/Notifications:
1) We are offering a new pathway for students who want to receive college credit. It is called "On Ramps", and it is through the University of Texas. There is some information below that I would encourage you to peruse. We are having a "programs fair" during student lunches this Friday, and we will be providing more information to our students. Please encourage them to check this out if they are interested.
2) It is my understanding that Old Hockley road will be closed beginning February 8 (next Friday). That could impact some of you and our students when trying to get to Magnolia West. It has changed yet again, but I want to make sure everyone has the most up to date information.
3) All students (9th -12th) begin this semester eligible for spring final exam exemptions. One of the major components for retaining eligibility is attendance. Students can have no more than 3 absences. Please encourage your student to work diligently to maintain their exemption status as we progress through the semester.
4) Speaking of attendance, we are offering some prizes for perfect attendance during the 3rd 9 weeks. If your child has perfect attendance beginning Monday, February 5 - Friday, March 8, he or she will be eligible to win a pair of Beats Headphones. I am giving away several pairs for this cycle.
5) If your student is looking for scholarship opportunities, Ms. Cabello, Ms. John, and Ms. Kenjura are dedicated to helping them through that process. Please encourage your child to visit them in The Zone.
You can reach me anytime at jmorley@magnoliaisd.org
Thank you,
Jason Morley

National Assessment of Educational Progress
What is NAEP?
The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), often called The Nation’s Report Card, is the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what students in public and private schools in the United States know and are able to do in various subjects. Since 1969, NAEP has been a common measure of student achievement across the country in math, reading, science, and many other subjects. Depending on the assessment, NAEP report cards provide
national, state, and some district-level results, as well as results for different demographic groups.
NAEP is a congressionally mandated project of the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), located within the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences.
NAEP data are also used in special studies conducted by NCES. These have included comparisons of proficiency standards across state assessments; insights from high school transcripts,
including courses taken and credits earned; and in-depth looks at how different demographic groups perform across different types of schools.
