Friendly reminder that the cut-off for any early afternoon student pick-up is 2:30 p.m.

For unexcused absences please be sure to email it to our Registrar at judy.tovar@austinisd.org

Make sure to include your child's full name, the specific dates they were out, and the reason.

Reminder: Monday, November 13th there will be no school.

We will be hosting a Thanksgiving Luncheon on Thursday, November 16th, 2023 during students' regular lunch time. Families can attend by purchasing a ticket in advance. This is a new procedure- no guest tickets will be sold the day of the luncheon. Staff and visitors may purchase a lunch meal for $5.00 the front office. Sales begin now through end of school day on November 14th, 2023. Please note- no guest tickets will be sold the day of the luncheon.

Brrrr.... it's getting cold outside! We have many jackets, hoodies and coats- come by and see if one belongs to you! Friday, November 17th is the last day to claim your items- any item that is not claimed will be donated.

Reminder: Fall Break will be November 20 - 24

Our Hospitality Committee delivered coffee, donuts, and breakfast tacos to treat our teachers the morning after Halloween. We love our teachers!

Contributions of treats for the teacher break rooms are welcome throughout the year. Simply label items as PTA/Break Rooms and then drop off at the front office for the Hospitality Committee to distribute. A list of some of our staff’s top snack choices is provided as a reference. Thank you for helping us provide our teachers with tasty tokens of appreciation!

We are excited to announce our Fall Virtual Popcorn Fundraiser with Deanan’s Popcorn, November 1st-15th. All orders ship free and the class that raises the most through popcorn sales or donations will receive an incentive party from PTA. Please share the fundraiser links with family, friends, and neighbors. Coach Hall has generously agreed to help celebrate fundraising success by dressing in a popcorn costume at the conclusion of the fundraiser if the total raised exceeds $2000!!

PTA is excited to announce that we are bringing "Hey Dude, Nice Shoes" Presentation to our school!

They will be doing a school presentation for the children during the school day on Tuesday, November 28th. She will also do an accompanying workshop at 6 p.m. for parents.

History About the Presenter:

Carolyn Jennings Brown has been serving public schools in the state of Texas for nearly two decades. She has a unique perspective that spans from being the daughter of an educator, a student, a teacher and a parent. Today, Carolyn travels across the nation and shares her Anti-Bullying/ Pro-Kindness presentation, “Hey Dude, Nice Shoes” with students of all ages and their parents. During this empowering and inspiring workshop, she shares her unique experiences and stories in a passionate and honest way to educate the two separate generations on this sensitive topic and bridge the gap of understanding about growing up. Carolyn is an honorary lifetime member of the Texas PTA and a recipient of the National PTA Lifetime Achievement Award. She brings 'Hey Dude, Nice Shoes' to more than 35,000 students across the United States each year.

The Fall Scholastic Book Fair at Menchaca will be bringing the joy and magic of new books to our campus November 6th-16th. Students will have an opportunity to shop for books, journals, and fun writing supplies during the assigned book fair session for their class. Additionally, families are welcome to attend open shopping periods on Wednesday, November 15th, and Thursday, November 16th. Please see the calendar shown below for scheduled book fair sessions.

● Volunteer your time: Help students choose books and complete purchases; Assist with restocking titles; Spend time reading, coloring, or playing with students during their library session. Book-only orders over $25 ship free.

This month, the counselors are spending classroom lesson time discussing with classes the “No Place for Hate” program our school participates in each year. No Place for Hate is a program through the Anti-Defamation League that works to build a learning community of inclusivity, respect, and equity.

As part of our “No Place for Hate” initiative this year, our student-led coalition is running a t-shirt design contest. The theme for this year’s program is “Proud to be an Ally”. All students have the opportunity to design a t-shirt that represents their interpretation of that theme and the greater No Place for Hate pledge.

All T-shirt designs are due to Ms. Dalzin or Ms. O’Connor by Friday, December 8th. After designs are submitted, the coalition will pick a winning design to be printed and sold to the Menchaca community with the help of our PTA. Proceeds from the t-shirt sales will benefit the PTA and a charity that the coalition chooses to support.

Lively welcomes any interested families to join us for a virtual information session on November 8th from 6:00-6:30 p.m. We will cover all things LIVELY, including our application-based Magnet program for Law, Humanities, and Global Studies and the Spanish Dual Language Academy. We will start promptly at 6:00 p.m. and look forward to seeing you there.

Menchaca Mustangs!! We are back for Fall 2023!!

All levels of experience are welcome! Athletes are taught the fundamentals and skills of track and field, including running form, breathing, sprints, relays, javelin (foam), shot put (foam), jumping, and
much more. The expert coaches provide high quality, energetic track & field instruction to athletes in their specific grade-level groups.

Dates: Friday, October 27-December 8 (Skip Thanksgiving)
Location: Menchaca track and field
Times: 3:15pm-4:15pm
Coed Grades: Kinder to 5th grade
Cost: $135 per student
Financial scholarships and sibling discounts available
