Hello Springwater Students and Families,

We are truly in the home stretch! Thank you to every student, parent, grandparent, and supporting adult who has helped get us through the past year! This is a short principal update with some important information about our end of year activities and events. Seniors and their families should have received a separate "senior letter" with all the specifics of graduation. If you did not receive it, please reach out and we will make sure you receive it!

Student academic success has increased significantly this quad, as measured by the percentage of students with NGs ("No Grades" as of the progress period). This, again, is a testament to the hard work of our students, families, and staff. I commend you all for your hard work and perseverance! For those students who do need to make up credit, there will be two sessions of credit recovery this summer. We will be reaching out to families and students to give you more details and create a plan. Our goal is to help get each and every student back on track by the time we return in September.

We continue to have academic support and teachers are available by email and phone, if you have questions. Please reach out and hang in there -- the summer is almost here!

We will be having an end of year celebration for both cohorts in the Hybrid model.

Cohort B: Friday June 4th from 2:00pm - 3:30pm

Cohort A: Tuesday June 8th from 2:00pm - 3:30pm.

We have had two wonderful Hybrid subs with us since April 19th. They are available to cover absences within our building while maintaining the safety of our cohorts. Read about Barbara Barber Kemper below.

I am so happy to have this opportunity to be back in school with people! I have been married for 29 years to my husband, Nick. I have three children, a daughter and two sons. My youngest son is a senior this year at Barlow. Fun fact: I have been a parent of a high school student for 12 years--none of my kids were in high school at the same time!! OH and I'm a new Gigi Nonna. My granddaughter is 6 months old! I have lived in the same house for 27 years! We currently have one kitten, Cleopatra, and our golden retriever, Ruby. I like to look on the bright side of life and like to be happy! This year I have decided to do my best at being an ambassador of joy! I learned a new word from Mr. Martinich a couple of weeks ago, ebullient. It means cheerful and full of energy! I am now claiming this as the word to best describe me!

Seniors! It's time to submit your senior photos, and your baby photos! All photos were due on February 1, 2021. You can still submit them electronically by filling out the following forms:

Its time to celebrate our Senior's and the STHS class of 2021! We will be celebrating Seniors every week from now tell Graduation. Keep an eye on our Facebook page to see our weekly Senior Spotlights.

The "Every Cent Counts" Scholarship was created in 2019. One $500 scholarship will be awarded to an STHS 2021 graduate (additional scholarships may be awarded depending on funds raised). The scholarship is funded through the recycling efforts of STHS students and our community. This year we will be participating in the Holiday Give 2020 through BottleDrop. Any blue bags that we drop off between November 15 and December 1st will receive a 20% match from BottleDrop.

Springwater Trail High School is enrolled in the Fred Meyer Community Rewards program! Please link your Fred Meyer rewards card with our nonprofit number MU443. Fred Meyers will donate a percentage of your purchases every quarter to our program. This will NOT affect your reward points or fuel points. Last quarter we received $78.49, every little bit helps. Distance Learning from home is NOT easy! Below are some suggestions/pointers for maximizing your success during distance learning.

• Post a schedule of your classes close to your computer
• Set reminders for your classes on your phone / chromebook
• Find a quiet place to participate in Google Classroom meetings. (We understand this can be extremely challenging when everyone is stuck at home!)
• Work with family members to minimize disruptions during live class sessions.
• Remember engagement and communication are more critical than ever during distance learning. Communication is about human connection, understanding, and community: all of which are priorities for us and part of the reason you chose to attend Springwater!
• It can take time to become comfortable turning your camera on and there are other ways to show you are engaged. Below are some ways to communicate and engage during live class sessions:

-------> * Use your microphone to ask and answer questions.

-------> * Use the chat feature to ask questions and get clarification.

-------> * Let your teacher know (through the chat) if you have to step away from your computer for a moment.
