St Marys City Schools is participating in Ohio’s STATE PERSONNEL DEVELOPMENT GRANT (SPDG) for the 23-24 and 24-25 school years. The purpose of the SPDG project is to build districts’ knowledge, skills and practices in Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Adolescent Literacy and Transition. St Marys Middle School has assembled a team, and, led by principal Liz Johnson has worked throughout the year to increase their ability to collect and analyze data, better understand the tenets of MTSS and refine their team structures. Participating in this project clearly demonstrates St Marys’ commitment to increasing their teaching skills in order to better prepare their students for all future endeavors!

SST6 is training a cohort of teams from across the region in the Check & Connect intervention to support student engagement and staying in school. Elementary, middle, and high school teams are learning and preparing to implement this mentor-based intervention in the 2024-2025 school year.

If you have students who are struggling with engagement, attendance, behavior or looking for ways to support your tier II and tier III students who are off track, this may be the intervention to help your students get back on track. Implementing Check & Connect with fidelity is key to its success. Finding quality mentors with the skill and the will to check in on students and make connections with them and their families is why Check & Connect has been so successful.

As Cohort 1 begins learning and planning for its students' future success, the SST is offering another team training session in June 2024. New teams can now apply for this learning opportunity. • Special Education Profiles: Data Verification Form due February 9, 2024. ONLY submit if you have a data error.
• Summary of Performance (SOP): The Summary of Performance (SOP) is an important document that must be provided to all exiting special education students under IDEA. The SOP aims to summarize the student's academic and functional performance and offer recommendations to help the student successfully meet their postsecondary goals. The SOP serves as a guide for the student to use in self-advocacy and sharing relevant information as they transition to higher education, the workforce, and adult services systems. Please ensure the SOP is completed and provided to all exiting special education students to set them up for success after high school.
