In Our House
ACHIEVING SUCCESS TOGETHER - RÉUSSIR ENSEMBLE
November 8, 2021
Dear École Charlie Killam School Community,
It's great to connect with you again.
We are approaching our fall break. Below you will find the link to the school public calendar but there is no school for students on November 11, 12, 15, and 16th.
ECKS School Council
In the weeks ahead, our School Council is planning a fundraiser with World's Finest Chocolate Covered Almonds. We will send out more information as it becomes available.
School Council Meeting
On November 9, 2021 at @ 7:00 pm, we will host a virtual school council meeting through Zoom. Parents and guardians play an important role in student success. School councils allow parents to participate in decisions that impact student learning. By contributing knowledge, perspective, and ideas at school council meetings, parents actively contribute to the success of the school community.
If you are interested in joining, please email Pam Boyson, the Chair of our School Council at ecksparentcouncil@gmail.com to request the Zoom link.
Remembrance Day - 2021
"In Our House" - The Cougar Code
In our coming newsletters, we will be outlining different parts of our Cougar Code so parents and guardians can come to know it better.
"In Our House, we respect everyone's right to learn"
What does this mean for students? It means that all students have a right to learn in the classroom and that all students must also respect the learning environment. Students are expected to be attentive to the teacher and their classmates, participate fully and help to maintain a calm classroom for everyone. Students are expected to do their best to complete their classwork, and to work cooperatively with the other students, all while creating a positive learning space for everyone.
ECKS Virtual Book Fair
Our book fair will be virtual this year, and will run from November 18 to December 1. Make sure to buy your Christmas gifts for family and friends, at the same time as you are supporting our school and our students!
The orders will arrive well before Christmas to our school. No extra shipping costs will apply. Please follow the link below for more information.
BRSD PowerSchool Report Card:
Battle River School Division has moved to the PowerSchool Gradebook system. Along with this new gradebook we have a new report card format. Right now, this report card format is very different from past year’s report cards. It is extremely basic in how it pulls information from the gradebook system. For students in Grades 1 to 6, the learning outcomes your child covered over this term will not appear on this report card. Grades 7 to 12 report cards look different but overall contain the same information. Our teachers have written detailed comments to provide you with a deep understanding of your child’s progress to date.
We are working to develop a new report card for second term that will look more like our “old” report card format. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s report card please contact your child’s teacher.
PowerSchool goes live on November 17, 2021. Report Cards will be distributed to students on November 19, 2021.
