Principals' Greeting
Greetings, Hiteon Community!
We are getting back into the swing of school post Winter Break. Covid cases are beginning to go down at Hiteon, which is something to celebrate. We thank all of you that have been so diligent and conscientious about keeping your child(ren) home when they present symptoms and notifying the main office.
It is an important reminder for all our families that pick their child(ren) up in the playground after school. Please be there by 2:35 so that teachers can release them to you as promptly as possible. If, for some reason, you are going to be more than five minutes late, please notify the main office, so we can let the teachers know. If you are late to pick up, check the main office because students will be sent to wait there. When picking up your child(ren) in the playground, make sure you make eye contact with their teacher. We want to ensure that all students are safely released to the appropriate person.
Kind Regards,
Meghan Warren, Principal
Jenny Read-Emslie, Assistant Principal

Science Assemblies Sponsored by our PTC!
During the month of February, the PTC has arranged for our students to participate in a virtual science assembly at school. For an exciting change of pace, we will be bringing in a presenter from the NASA Wallops Flight Facility, who will give a presentation called “Our Neighbor the Moon.” There will be two assemblies this year, one for K,1 &2 and another for grades 3, 4 & 5. Below is an overview of each assembly.
A HUGE Hiteon Heart thank you to our amazing PTC!!
Assembly for 3, 4 & 5 on February 11
The subject will be: Why is NASA going back to the Moon, and what’s left to discover? How will going to the Moon help astronauts get to Mars? Why do we want to land astronauts on Mars? We’ll answer these questions and more as we explore from the Moon to Mars. Following the discussion, students will create a pocket-size scale model of the solar system to better understand some of the challenges we face when exploring other parts of our solar system.
Assembly for K, 1 & 2 on February 25
The subject will be: What is something up in the sky visible during the day and at night? Something that may be dim or shine bright? What might have a different shape when we look at it on different days? It’s our neighbor, the Moon! Join us on a short 30-minute adventure about the Moon and NASA’s plans to go back and visit. We’ll learn more about our next-door neighbor, have a short Question and Answer session, and we’ll even share some suggestions that you can do in your classrooms!
We are so excited!

Learn About the Proposed 2022 Bond
Please come hear about the Beaverton School District Bond on March 16 @ 7:00 pm during our monthly PTC Meeting. Below is a link to the Zoom link to attend the PTC meeting.
PTC Meeting March 16 @ 7:00 pm
In May 2022, voters will decide on a new proposed capital improvement bond. If passed, the bond would raise about $723 million to be used on projects across the district including seismic stability upgrades, improvement of air ventilation systems, replacement of aging roofs, and additional classroom space to alleviate overcrowding. Bond money also would be used to improve accessibility in special education classrooms, enhance learning spaces and replace all one-to-one student Chromebooks and iPads. The two largest proposed projects are the complete rebuilds of Beaverton High School and Raleigh Hills K-8 School.
The bond proposal will appear on the May 17, 2022 ballot.

Things are picking up at the library this February! Lots of things that teachers, families, and kids may want to know about.
Student Library Cards
New library cards are in the hands of nearly 3,000 BSD students! We have seen many of these “Let’s Go to the Library” cards being used for the first (or second, or third) times, and the kids are so excited to pick out their own books and use their own cards. If you would like a librarian to zoom into your classrooms to talk about the library or read to your class let me know!
