PRINCIPAL’S PĀNUI
We have had a very happy to start to the school year at Pembroke School, it has been lovely to catch up with the students and families again after the summer break. It has been wonderful to have some sunshine and to see the students all outside enjoying each others company and having great fun, the new sandpit is a popular spot and the shade sail is a great addition. We are looking forward to our Pembroke Backyard BBQ next Thursday evening and hope to start the year off with a catch up and some family fun! Our senior students have been making applications for leadership roles, we are very fortunate to have an incredible group of senior students, all who consistently role model our ASPIRE values and care towards the younger students. We are looking forward to announcing Head Boy, Head Girl and our deputies at next Friday's Hui-ā-kura / Assembly starting at 2.20pm.
Please keep an eye out on your inboxes this week. We are switching over to a new app for our communication. The email will provide information on how to access the app and a code that is personalised to your child/ren. All school communication will be through this app, our school Facebook Page and newsletters will also be available on our school website. If you need assistance please contact the school office. The E-tap app is run through our student management system ensuring that everything is now nicely streamlined.
We are looking forward to our Superhero Day next Monday, students are encouraged to find things they have around the home and get creative when coming up with ideas for costumes. Our theme for this term is all about helping our students discover and celebrate their unique talents and interests and understand how they can use these to help make their whanau, class and school great. We are also learning about how we can all be Super Learners in 2024!
Thank you for a wonderful start to the school year, Pembroke is such a fantastic place for tamariki to learn and grow and we are all looking forward to enjoying a great year of fun and learning at Pembroke School.

Happiness Highlights
Our lunchtime house sports are back on, this time twice a week and it's been great to see the children getting involved.
This year we have started a new initiative with a school choir. We have so many talented singers at Pembroke School and we want to nurture this as well as help build personal confidence. The choir is open to anyone who is interested and with practices every Friday at lunch time we will be well prepared for our school production in Term 4.
It has been wonderful to get back into Buddy Reading again, this is always a great time for our whole school to come together and share in their learning. This year it has felt extra special to get to enjoy our lovely new Totara room and for the first time in far too long have our library in a space that is open, warm and inviting to curl up together and share a good book. We are busy behind the scenes getting our new library system in place so that the children will be able to borrow library books. We will let everyone know as soon as this is all up and running.
The enthusiasm and energy seems to be flowing with the lovely people preparing our school lunches to. They have been extra tasty for the last two weeks with burgers, dumplings and lasagne being just a few of the yummy things we have received so far.

WELCOME ALSO TO SOME NEW STAFF AND TRAINING TEACHERS
We would like to extend a warm welcome to our new staff and student teachers who are joining us at Pembroke School.
Welcome to our new Kaiāwhina Kaiako (Teaching Assistants) Anna Singh - Senior Literacy and Olli Single (Kōwhai Class) Learning Support. We would also like to welcome Mrs Marie Drylie who is a Student Teacher in Rimu this year, Miss Ashlee Newman who is in Rātā and also Sophie Hancock who is completing Teacher Aide Training and will be completing her placement in Rātā Class this term. It is a special privilege to have Ashlee who is an ex-student of Mr Single’s when she was the age our Rātā children are. Please make sure you say hi and make everyone feel welcome. What an incredible opportunity for our tamariki to have so many caring adults to assist them with their learning.
