Welcome To Week Two!
August 21-25, 2023
Week Two!
Dear Brahma Family,
The picture in this note and in the background of this week’s Brahma Briefing is from the Senior Sunrise. The event was one of the highlights of first week of the 2023-24 school year. Thank you to the Class of 2024 Advisors (Shari DeCambra, Stacy Tenace, and Jason Bae) and their class committee for planning and organizing the event. The early morning event followed our first football game of the year, a 28-19 victory over Esperanza High School. Our volleyball team also played on three straight days sweeping their opponents on two days out of the three. Last but not least, our USB, led by activities Director Janna Van Horn, coordinated and carried out the Rodeo Roundup with the help of the Magnificent 7 parent organizations. It was a great event! Thank you to everyone who came out on an uncomfortably warm afternoon to eat, play games, and watch the amazing student performances.
The second week of school is starting. Hopefully, things will begin to feel more normal this week. There will be a Late Start Day on Wednesday, the GLC’s due process meetings are over, there are no minimum days, no Thursday night football game, or Senior Sunrise. Everyone is settling into their schedule, establishing their routines—when to wake up in the morning, when to leave the house, where to get dropped off or park. Students are beginning to speak up in class and collaborate more with their classmates and teachers. After last year, even the rain will make things feel more normal. If it’s still raining on Monday morning, please try to give yourself a little more time to get safely to school.
This week, all three levels of Volleyball play at home against Brea Olinda High School on Tuesday beginning at 3:30 p.m. Our Varsity Girls’ Tennis team is at home on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. to play Ayala High School. On Saturday, our Varsity Boys’ Water Polo and Football team play Chino High School the Water Polo match is at home at 12:30 p.m., and the football game is at Chino High School at 7 p.m. Our Girls’ Golf team also continues to prepare for their Hacienda League opponents in preseason matches.
I hope you have a great second week of school.
Sincerely,
David Hong
Principal
Tropical Storm Update
Dear WVUSD Families & Staff,
At this time, we have not experienced significant impacts from the storm. Walnut Valley Unified School District Schools will continue to open Monday, August 21, 2023, as scheduled.
The National Weather Service has issued a tropical storm warning for Hurricane Hilary from now until Monday night that will affect areas in Southern California, including Los Angeles County.
It is advised to continue to prepare for the impacts of the storm and expect roadway flooding, wind damage, and power outages.
Safety will remain our top priority as we monitor this weekend’s weather. We believe in the safety of our students and school staff and will update you should conditions change.
Thank you,
WVUSD
