ROTARY AWARD WINNER
Congratulations to Cole Booth, a Game Design/Animation and website design student for winning the Rotary Vocational Service award.
The Rotary Vocational Service student award is given to Livonia High School students committed to learning vocational employment skills while completing their academic education. It is for students who demonstrate honesty in work, life, and school. It is for students who can lead and be a part of the team where the team's needs come before the personal needs of the leaders. It is for students who practice the concepts of the Rotary 4 Way test in their academic life.
Rotary 4-Way Test
Is it the Truth?
Is it fair to all concerned?
Will it Build Goodwill and Better Friendships?
Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
PASSES EDGE STUDENT TRAINING
All Career Center students participated in Parents for Student Safety Employment Standards Training which educates teens on workplace safety. Topics included deadly hazards, construction safety, ladders, lifting and chemical safety, personal protection, fire safety, operating machinery, teen labor laws, and retail safety.
Students were taught laws surrounding what they are allowed to do, and not allowed to do until they are 18. They were also taught not to be afraid to speak up if their safety is put at risk.
MBA CLASS
In an exciting and educational venture, the MBA class recently embarked on a transformative field trip to the Activate Metro Detroit Small Business and Start-up Conference hosted at Madonna University. This outing offered students a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of entrepreneurship, innovation, and small business in Metro Detroit. Madonna University's representatives extended a warm welcome, emphasizing the importance of the conference in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. This gave the students a context for the day's events and an understanding of the university's commitment to education. The students listened to Terry Bean, an influential figure in the Detroit business community; he delivered a captivating keynote address. His insights into entrepreneurship and innovation resonated deeply with the MBA students, setting the stage for the day's exploration of these critical concepts. The heart of the day was the Design Think workshop. Led by experienced Professor Jay Johnson, the students engaged in a dynamic session focused on creativity, empathy, problem-solving, and ideation. Through this workshop, they were challenged to address real-world business challenges, enabling them to experience the power of design thinking firsthand. During the lunch break, students engaged in networking activities with their peers and industry professionals. This time allowed them to share ideas, connect with potential mentors, and build valuable relationships. The pinnacle of the day arrived when students were invited to present their ideas at the Activate: Metro Detroit Start-Up & Small Business Conference. The students shared innovative concepts for enhancing customer engagement in front of a diverse and attentive audience, including experienced entrepreneurs and business owners. These presentations were a testament to the power of experiential learning. The students confidently articulated their creative ideas, demonstrating the benefits, feasibility, and potential impact on local businesses. Their audience, comprised of seasoned professionals, was thoroughly impressed by the students' creativity, drive, and entrepreneurial spirit.
Game Design and Animation/Web Design
Students in Game Design and Animation/Web Design joined 500 other high school students across the State of Michigan to participate in an event created to educate students on the topic of cybersecurity and to foster the next generation of cybersecurity professionals. Students were provided the opportunity to participate in sessions focused on showcasing opportunities available in cybersecurity, visited exhibitors, and talked to Universities that offer Cyber Security degrees.
The Deputy Director of the National Cyber Security at the White House welcomed and encouraged students to pursue internships in cyber security in Washington D.C.
A panel of cyber security leaders from various industries highlighted their journeys, shared career advice and shared useful information regarding available resources to help develop skills and knowledge in the cyber domain.
Panelists included :
The Chief Information Officer; State of Michigan
Vice President of Information Security, Little Caesars
Security Researcher and Founder; Redline Cyber Security
WomSA Training Coordinator and Cybersecurity Engineer; Ford
Panelists encouraged students with the following words of wisdom:
"Don't worry about making mistakes. Rather learn from your mistakes and press on. You learn the most from making mistakes.
Have courage and surround yourself with the right people.
Join a Club.
Be Confident, be yourself.
Get a mentor."
There was a session on Cyber Security in the age of AI, and the
Michigan State Police introduced students to their Cyber Dog Maggie who is trained on detecting electronics.
Students collected fun trinkets at the exhibitor tables and learned Cyber Security has significant breadth and depth when it comes to career opportunities.
SHOWING UP IS KEY!
Throughout our schools and district, we are emphasizing the great importance of student attendance. In order for our students to learn at high levels, make meaningful connections with others, and be engaged as learners, they need to be in school each and every day. It may seem that a day “here or there” might not make a difference. Each day adds up and over a school year can mean the loss of essential learning and growth. Please help us to help your child by ensuring they come to school each and every day. Showing up is key!
