On Tuesday, 10/24, we will conduct a schoolwide Lockdown drill. During this drill, we practice the hypothetical situation of a concern inside the building. Teachers have been working with their classes to pre-teach what to expect when we conduct this drill. During this drill, teachers will gather their students in an area of their classroom that is out of sight from windows or doors. This is a drill that sometimes causes some heightened emotions for our students. This is why we emphasize pre-teaching the expectations prior to this event.

We have been noticing a large amount of students being dropped off in front of the school prior to 8:15. As a reminder, we do not have staff supervising students before 8:15.

Beginning Monday, October 30- we will be changing the location for Kindergarten students to wait in their lines for the bell to ring, to account for the cold weather months. Instead of waiting outside undercover, students will be brought inside the music room to wait for the bell to ring.

Parents do not need to do anything differently. Students will still enter school grounds through the side gate on the red line. Duty staff will help students enter the school to line up in the music room.

Get ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way (YAY!). Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them to become Bolder, Prouder, and Stronger Readers. AND—as always—every book they buy earns rewards for our school.

The in-person fair will take place one day only, Wednesday, November 8 from 8:30 am- 3:00 pm, in the Sato Cafeteria.

Do you have out of town friends and family that want to support your student's love of reading? Set up an eWallet for worry-free, cash-free purchases. Anyone can contribute! Share each child’s eWallet so friends and family can add funds and give your kids more books to enjoy. The bookfair will also accept cash, checks, credit cards, and Apple Pay/Google Pay.

The book fair is a great opportunity to support your student's classroom! Just click the eWallet link from your student's teacher to add money to their eWallet account. These funds will be used to purchase new books from the book fair for your student's classroom. Donations are entirely optional- never required, but always appreciated!

If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Online Book Fair November 6-19. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Your online orders will also benefit our school.

What is Filipino-American History Month?

Filipino-American History Month is celebrated in the U.S. in October. It is a time to learn about and celebrate Filipino-Americans’ contributions in American history.

Why do we celebrate it?

We celebrate it because the United States has often overlooked or ignored accomplishments of Filipino-Americans. Now we learn about extraordinary Filipino-Americans all year long at Sato, and we take extra time to honor them in October.

Family discussion questions:

• What Filipino-Americans do you already know about? What did they do? How could you celebrate them?

• What can you do to learn more about the contributions of Filipino-American individuals?

School that raises the most money gets an additional $1,000.

We get a tremendous amount of things in our lost and found each year and when they are not claimed, we donate it to the clothes for kids program. Please label all things brought to school with a first name and last initial so we can get it back to the rightful owner! Thank you!
