Issue 9: May 2021
Hello Fridley Middle School Families:
Thank you for your continued support and patience as we navigate the challenges of the school year! We could not be more proud of our learners who have met these challenges with flexibility, adaptability and resilience. Our students in both learning models- in person and online- have been outstanding with the changes they have faced this year! We know that they will always remember this school year and will have learned new skills as a result.
We are excited to welcome our in-person learners back into the building on Monday, May 3 after a short time in full-distance learning. As we enter the last 6 weeks of the school year, help us keep our students learning in the building by continuing to keep your student home if they are showing any symptoms and getting tested regularly.
Let's finish the year strong! Go Tigers!

MCA Testing
Due to adjustments to schedules that occurred when the school shifted to distance learning, we have rescheduled our MCA test dates to better support students as they return to in-person learning. This new testing schedule will maximize learning for students while they are at school and ensure that they are not testing each day that they are back. In addition, our Online Academy (distance learning) students have also had their days rescheduled due to the in-person learning shift. Our new plan for MCA testing is below:
In Person Learners:
- Testing will be offered on Wednesdays for students who wish to take the MCA Math and Reading Assessments
- Students who do not wish to take the MCA assessments will continue to access distance learning materials on Wednesday for their encore classes and homeroom
- Reading MCA will be offered on Wednesday, May 12 from 10:15 am - 3:00 pm
- Math MCA will be offered on Wednesday, May 19 from 10:15 am - 3:00 pm
- For both Reading and Math MCA tests (students who sign up will be signed up for both tests):
- Transportation will be provided
- Lunch will be provided
- Students must sign up through the link below by Wednesday, May 5
Online (Distance) Learners:
- Testing will be offered on Wednesdays for students who wish to take the MCA
- Students who do not wish to take the MCA test will continue with their Edgenuity/Distance learning materials as usual
- Students must sign up through the link below by Wednesday, May 5
- Distance learning students who signed up to the take the test are already scheduled and do not need to do anything else. If you have not signed up to take the MCA and would like your student to do so, please fill out the attached form, or sign up at the link below.
Sign up link and additional information for both learning models:
- Although distance learners and in person learners will be testing on the same dates, students will be in small groups separated by learning models while testing.
- Students and staff will be required to wear masks at all times and we will follow social distancing.
- For those who opt out of the MCA test, please know that we will still plan to assess student learning through the AMath and AReading assessments during the last week of May. These assessments measure achievement and growth in Math and Reading and parents will have access to their students assessment scores.
All students will need to bring their Chromebooks, chargers, and headphones to school on testing days. Please remind your student to bring these items along with them to school and to charge their Chromebook the night before testing. We have a limited amount of extra Chromebooks to loan students so it is critical that they bring them to school.
Thank you for your flexibility and support.

Peachjar
Fridley Public Schools uses Peachjar, an online flyer management service to share flyers to Fridley families. School approved flyers are now sent to parents electronically and posted on the school website. Parents can simply click flyers they receive through email or click the Peachjar button or icon on each school's homepage.
This 'green' initiative will save our schools tons of paper and reduces copy costs by thousands of dollars. In addition, posting school flyers in this electronic backpack removes a significant administrative burden from teachers, office staff, and volunteers.
