Taking place each year on the third Monday of January, the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service (MLK Day) is the only federal holiday that is designated by Congress as a national day of service. To commemorate this day, Beckwith Middle School held a Can Drive from January 3rd through January 13th.

All of the students in each grade level homeroom with the most donated cans will get a free chocolate chip cookie or snack for lunch and the grade with the most donated cans will get extra recess.

The results of the Can Drive are as follows:

Grade 5 - Homeroom 108 - 363 Cans

Grade 6 - Homeroom 219 - 171 Cans

Grade 7 - Homeroom 214 - 172 Cans

Grade 8 - Homeroom 201 - 65 Cans

Grade Level with the Most Donated Cans:

Grade 5 - 1,012 Cans

TOTAL Number of Cans Donated to the Rehoboth Food Pantry:

2,087 CANS!!!!!!!

Great job by the Student Council and ACE Community Service Group for assisting with the Can Drive and a thank you for all who donated cans!

Last year Mrs. Abrams held some focus groups to hear what students liked and didn’t like about BMS. This year, she would like to invite students to participate in a school community task force. This would take place during the school day (lunch/study) and will give the students a chance to come together, eat lunch, and stay through study to not only talk about concerns around our school community, but to help come up with possible solutions and action steps to address these concerns. Your child's voice is important! Please encourage them to sign up at lunch or email aabrams@drregional.org to get involved.

A couple of weeks ago, you received an email from ASPEN with instructions to set up your Family Portal account. This will allow you to view your student's progress without the need to log in to your child's individual ASPEN account. The Family Portal can be accessed from any device with an internet connection, including smartphones, giving you the flexibility to stay informed from anywhere. A single login will allow you to view information for all of your children regardless of the school.

The Department is inviting students, parents, education professionals, and community members to participate in a survey that will provide feedback on the MCAS program and help inform improvements. The Department is seeking stakeholders’ input in several areas, including communications and support, data and reporting, and release of test questions. The survey will close at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 27. Please contact mcas@doe.mass.edu with any questions.

Account payments can be made through MySchoolBucks.com using a debit/credit card or checks at all cafeteria registers. Please make checks payable to “Dighton Rehoboth Regional School District” and include your student’s full name in the memo line.

School meals, both breakfast and lunch, are once again free (see below); however, all students must use the point of sale system to obtain a free lunch. Please encourage your child to remember their lunch pin number because it helps to move along the lunch lines. If a student forgets their pin, then the cafeteria workers need to look it up and this stalls the lunch line.

Students will need to pay for snacks not included with the free meal and this is the reason why a parent would want to put money on their child's account.
