Spotlight: Professional Learning Opportunities
Humans are social creatures. We have an innate desire for connection. In this groundbreaking book, Dr. Vivek Murthy shares the research into loneliness as he makes the case that this is one of the most important public health concerns of our time. This book explores the impact of loneliness, its progression over time and the creative solutions to help ourselves, our loved ones and our communities realize we are not alone. Connections will be made to aspects of Social Emotional Learning as well as Culturally Responsive Teaching. The communities and sense of belonging we nourish in our classrooms and schools matters. This book study will be facilitated over three virtual sessions via Zoom.

The Ways Children Learn Music Book Study
Do you have that friend or student who can just sit down and play any song after hearing it once, but can’t read a single note a page? How about that student who has been studying music for years but just seems to struggle progressing in their musical skills. The ways in which we experience music can continually change, but the ways on how we learn music are very similar to how we learn language. This book explores how we learn music, provides practical guidance with instructional ideas, and showcases a variety of curriculum outlines that connect with our NYS Standards. This book study will meet four times, twice in person and twice on Zoom. Our last session will be a Zoom visit with the author, Eric Bluestein, to talk about the book and ask questions!
Any questions, please contact CJ Oliver at coliver@CiTiboces.org.
