You should have received several emals from Registration@zcs.k12.in.us with information and instructions on registering your child(ren) in Zionsville Community Schools for the 2019-2020 school year. We request that you complete this registration on or before Friday, May 31st.

If your child is returning to Zionsville Community Schools next year, and you do not receive this email, please check your spam or junk folder. If you can’t find this email, please let us know.

If your child will not be returning to Zionsville Community Schools next year, please notify your school(s) building secretary at your earliest convenience. For all other residency changes, please contact the Central Office at 317-873-2858.

Please note that during the summer months, our office hours will be modified as compared to our regular hours during the school year. Note: Administration and office team will be working a majority of the summer, but the office will have limited availability to the public.

Over the past seven years, Deb has done an outstanding job with beautifying our entrances and grounds, we are so grateful.

As Deb said in a recent neighborhood Facebook post "...it's time for me to pass the trowel. My youngest will be moving onto the middle school in the fall & my hope is that BME will continue to improve their landscape & outdoor opportunities for the children. But they will need help"

2019-20 ZCS BYOD System Requirements

Community Schools is a 1:1 school district that encourages all students to Bring Your Own Device (BYOD). We do have rental machines available for $132.50 a year but 85% of the students actually bring a device they own. When purchasing a device, please keep the minimum requirements below in mind. The minimal changes made to the requirements are directly related to the software needed to run ILEARN testing and the ability to access our encrypted network for safety. One item to note is that the 19-20 school year will be the last year that Chromebooks will work in our system.

 Windows 10, 8 or 8.1, no RT or Windows 10S. Please note that support for Windows 7 will end January 14, 2020.

 Chrome OS 72 (Chromebooks not supported with Project Lead the Way applications) *19-20 is the last year Chromebooks will work for the 5-12 BYOD program.

 Linux OS not recommended

Other items to consider

 Laptop weight and size (carried all day to classes)

 Is there a warranty if the device is damaged? Can it be covered under homeowner's insurance?

 If a problem occurs with the device at home or at school, a loaner from ZCS is available for up to 10 days a year.

o This includes information on how to access free downloads of Office 2016.

o Antivirus needed? At no cost, students can download the Avast or AVG as well.

Our school has once again partnered with 1st Day School Supplies. Now, you can get the exact supplies your teachers requested without the hassle of back to school shopping! The Indiana Department of Education requires school districts to identify high ability (gifted) students and provide them with appropriately differentiated curriculum and instruction. In ZCS, we consider ability and achievement data of all students each spring to identify any who may need advanced instruction and/or curriculum. While the official designation is a state-required label for students, our school district is committed to continuous progress for all students, regardless of designation. Accelerated content is common in our classrooms as are heightened expectations and instructional levels and high-achieving peers. Instructional methods regularly group and regroup students with differentiated materials and goals. Our teachers are committed to regular assessment of skills and knowledge and matching experiences to challenge each child and help him or her make maximum academic growth. We are proud to be a high-performing school district with high expectations for all students.

For students currently in grades 1-3: All students are reviewed each year to determine if they need advanced curriculum and/or instruction. Our identification team looks at both achievement (NWEA) and ability (OLSAT). Since these vary from year to year with young students, we re-look at every student each spring. Parents will be notified by June 10 if their child has been recommended for differentiation based on the need for accelerated instruction or curriculum. If you love the outdoors, love family time, love your community and enjoy your school and colleagues, you will want to put together a team for this summer's Field Day. The Strong in Every Way Field Day is far ALL community members. Participants can be anyone over the age of 5 including: families, children, adults, and senior citizens (feel free to bring the little ones, they are great cheerleaders).

This year's "Field Day" will focus on:

• Building webs of support within the community
• Promoting wellness
• Developing community pride

The morning event schedule:

• 8:30am DanceFit by Erin in the St. Vincent Stadium
• 9am Competition begins with 30-minute rotations with 15-minute transition time: Kickball, CornHole,
• 4-Square, Track Relays, Tug-Of-War, and Inner Tube Relays in the pool!
• 12:30pm Awards ceremony at the pool!

A quick reminder, ALL medication that is in the health clinic must be picked up by May 28th. The clinic is open on school days from 7:30am-3:30pm

For safety of our students, all medication must be transported to and from school by an adult (unless other arrangements have been made with the Nurse). Any medication that is left in the clinic will be discarded by St. Vincent Hospital.

School Nurse/School Health Program at BME

The Indiana State Department of Health school immunization requirements for 2019-2020 have been updated. Click here to view these new requirements as they have recently changed. Students who do not have the Hepatitis A series may need to get the first dose as soon as possible as there is a minimum interval of six calendar months between the first and second doses. Religious and medical objections to the immunization requirements must be updated and signed each school year. Please feel free to send updated immunization records to the health clinic as you receive them. Contact the school nurse or your physician’s office with any questions.

Attention all parents/guardians! Have you ever thought about getting paid for the time you spend at our school? Becoming a substitute teacher would do just that for you! Think of it as a paid volunteer position. You still get the opportunity to control your schedule and locations you work but have the added benefit of a little extra pocket money! CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR VOLUNTEERS

We value partnerships with our families and welcome parents and guardians to serve as volunteers in our schools. Each ZCS building offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities.

Examples include:

• Field Trip Chaperones
• Out of Town/Overnight Chaperones
• Tutors
• Volunteer Coaches
• Classroom Helpers (PTO parties/room parents)
• Library Helpers
• After Prom Workers
• Field Day/Jog-A-Thon Volunteers
• Book Fair Sales/Athletic Ticket Sales

During the school day, all volunteers are expected to sign in at the front office. Prior to the volunteer opportunity, all volunteers must sign a Non-disclosure Acknowledgement Form and have successfully completed a Full Criminal History Background Check. Necessary background check paperwork is available on the ZCS website at the Volunteers/BRAVO link and should be submitted at least 10 days prior to the intended volunteer date. Volunteers must also view the state mandated confidentiality/bullying video, provided on the Volunteer/BRAVO website. The volunteer will pay the fee* for the full background check which will expire after 5 years. CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR VISITORS

During the school day, all visitors must enter via the front door and sign-in at the front office. Visitors need to be prepared to present a government issued photo ID which will be scanned against the National Sex Offender Registry. All visitors will be issued a visitor badge/tag to be worn inside the building at all times.

Examples Include:

• Classroom Guest Speakers
• Classroom Special Events (Grandparent Day/Famous Hoosiers/etc.)
• Parent/Teacher Conferences

We ask that all visitors schedule an appointment to meet with teachers, counselors, administrators and all other staff members so that we may best serve everyone. Visitors other than parents/guardians must be prearranged and organized through the main office.
