Dear Families,
Next week, our school will participate in, The Great Kindness Challenge. Each day, teachers will read children's literature around kindness and have a classroom discussion about the kindness challenge for the day. Below is a weekly schedule of the acts of kindness our students will try to achieve each day!

San Mateo Ed Foundation Readathon
Ready, set, READ! Today is the day! Details for the kick-off events tonight and tomorrow are available at smfcedfund.org/readathon. Our public librarians and other special guests will read and engage our students as we celebrate our community and the wonderful books available to us! Don’t forget to post your favorite book and check out what your SMFC community loves to read on social media with the hashtag #SMFCReadathon!
Your student can also begin seeking pledges from family and friends to support the Readathon. If you did not receive an email with your child's Readathon page information, please visit our Readathon website smfcedfund.org/readathon for assistance and to check out our other great resources about this year’s event. The top reader and top fundraiser from each school will be invited to a reception with a local author.
As schools read together we hope our broad and diverse community will experience unity and, in the process, raise educational funding for every student in our district. Our goal is to raise an average of $25 per student. Thank you for your support!
Community Exposure - Close Contact Letters
- Why do we get more than one letter in one week? Each time we have a confirmed case, we must send a letter to our community. We try to wait until late afternoon so that we can send one letter with exposure dates and classroom numbers on the letter.
- What does the exposure date mean? The exposure date is the last day the positive case was in the classroom.
- What do I do if I can't find a rapid test for my child? The office can test your child if they need to be tested to return to the classroom.
- If I receive a letter, does that mean there was a positive case in my child's classroom? No, we are required to send a letter to our school community about a positive case on our campus. We are also responsible to notify families that there was a positive case in their child's classroom. The letter will list classrooms that had a positive case.
Pool Testing
Students who have tested positive for Covid will not participate in pool testing for 3 months. The office will be monitoring students that should not test.
I highly encourage families to have their children participate in pooled testing. This is an effective screening tool to test students.
