TIPS Journal January 10 , 2022
on the school year so far
Greetings from Tokyo International Progressive School
Our International Day in December was one like no other, a unique day dedicated to the cultures of our families this year. I really appreciate the thought and care families contributed to the day. For those of you who could not attend, below are photos that attempt to capture the mood and theme of the day, one that celebrates our diversity.
Our mentorship program is thriving this year, thanks to Mr. Jessen-Petersen and Ms. Muntz, who have paired a younger student and an older student for weekly Monday sessions at 3:25 p.m. We are continually impressed by the wise, supportive and kind comments we overhear.
Mr. Jessen-Petersen will present "Developing Executive Functioning Skills" to all who are interested this Friday, January 14 at 7 p.m. Register for free for this important piece of Mr. Jessen-Petersen's popular series, "Good Learning Habits for Home and School".
Sign up for free to listen and attend Mr. Jessen-Petersen's presentation at https://forms.gle/8oWg173o6QgfR6baA
Mr. Kurtis Tomlinson, classroom teacher, is heeding his city's request to quarantine until January 18. Mr. Tomlinson was exposed to COVID-19, tested negative and has no symptoms. He is using Google Meets to instruct and observe his students until January 18.
Thanks for reading. Any questions, please ask!
Sincerely,
Lyn Sato

STUDENT COUNCIL ACTIVITIES
The TIPS student council has recently purchased a soundbar called the Sonos Beam Generation 2. The Beam is a top-of-the-line surround sound system that uses the latest technology to detect the acoustics of a room and adapt the speaker sound to the room specifications. The soundbar can be used for a wide variety of purposes, such as movie days or watching a documentary about the effects of climate change.

CLUB FUN
There is no charge for participation in clubs, with the exception of the Tuesday coding, by Tokyo Coding Club, which delivers fun coding and robotics activities by their knowledgeable and creative staff.
Some club offerings may be changing in the new semester. As always, club content is based on student interest. More to come on this subject!
