All Souls Catholic School
Newsletter - February 24, 2022
Every year Catholics try to answer the age-old question: What should I do for Lent? Well, who better to pick for as your Lenten spiritual director than Pope Francis? He has some great ideas for you!
Here are 5 of his best tips:
1. Get rid of the lazy addiction to evil “[Lent] is a ‘powerful’ season, a turning point that can foster change and conversion in each of us. We all need to improve, to change for the better. Lent helps us and thus we leave behind old habits and the lazy addiction to the evil that deceives and ensnares us.” – General Audience, March 5, 2014
2. Do something that hurts “Lent is a fitting time for self-denial; we would do well to ask ourselves what we can give up in order to help and enrich others by our own poverty. Let us not forget that real poverty hurts: no self-denial is real without this dimension of penance. I distrust a charity that costs nothing and does not hurt.” – Lenten Message, 2014
3. Take part in the sacraments “Lent is a favorable time for letting Christ serve us so that we in turn may become more like him. This happens whenever we hear the word of God and receive the sacraments, especially the Eucharist. There we become what we receive: the Body of Christ.” – Lenten Message, 2015
4. Prayer “In the face of so many wounds that hurt us and could harden our hearts, we are called to dive into the sea of prayer, which is the sea of God’s boundless love, to taste his tenderness. Lent is a time of prayer, of more intense prayer, more prolonged, more assiduous, more able to take on the needs of the brethren, intercessory prayer, to intercede before God for the many situations of poverty and suffering.” – Homily, March 5, 2014
5. Help the Poor “In the poor and outcast we see Christ’s face; by loving and helping the poor, we love and serve Christ. Our efforts are also directed to ending violations of human dignity, discrimination and abuse in the world, for these are so often the cause of destitution. When power, luxury and money become idols, they take priority over the need for a fair distribution of wealth. Our consciences thus need to be converted to justice, equality, simplicity and sharing.” – Lenten Message, 2014 (Kevin Kotter – focus.org)
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parent/Guardians,
Ash Wednesday
Ash Wednesday Mass will be celebrated next Wednesday, March 2nd, at 8am in the church. We look forward to seeing as many of you at this Mass.
School Family Mass
On March 6th, we have our School Family Mass at 10:30am. Our 8th and 1st grade students are preparing for this Mass, and we encourage as many of you to attend.
Academic Decathlon
Our 7th and 8th grade students will participate in the upcoming Academic Decathlon held by the Archdiocese of San Francisco. Our students will be competing against students from other schools from the San Francisco Archdiocese and the Oakland Diocese. We wish them all the best and thanks to Miss Cadelago for preparing the students over the past months.
Re-Enrollment
At the beginning of March, we will begin the re-enrollment process for the new school year of 2022-2023. You will need to complete the online re-enrollment form and pay the registration fee of $330 per child at this time. We wish to have all re-enrollments completed by March 30th so that we can go to the waiting lists and make offers to those families wishing to send their child/children to All Souls. If you are not returning for fall 2022-2023, please inform the school office as soon as possible. If you have any questions regarding the process, please contact Mrs. Cierra at info@ssfallsoulsschool.org
Kindergarten Admissions
We are still in the midst of enrolling for the kindergarten class. If you know of anyone who is of kindergarten age, please let those parents know about our school and encourage them to have a tour and enroll.
TADS Financial Aid
TADS financial application for the school year 2022-2023 has been released. Below please find instructions on how to submit your application. If you encounter any issues or have any questions, feel free to contact Ms. Escobar at cescobar@ssfallsoulsschool.org.
Tuition For 2022-2023 School Year
At our recent Board meeting, we discussed the need to increase tuition by 4% for the next school year. While it pains us to do so, we are committed to paying the staff and managing the upkeep of the facilities. Please see the attached new tuition rates below.
Participation Plan Service Hours
As I mentioned in a recent email to everyone, the school board has revised the tuition family agreement form for families opting for the Participation Plan. We have removed categories and replaced them with activity hours. Families will have to complete 40 service hours from July 1st to June 30th for each school year. The information about this is attached in the pdf. Additionally, part of the new agreement with the move from categories to service hours, the various boards, Athletic and School, will be dissolved in June.
God Bless and Stay Safe,
