Why You Need Your Social Security Number on File at PHS
Parents, if your student does not have a social security number on file, you should have received a parent square alert.
If your student plans to attend college, the social security number is needed in order to process transcripts through GA Futures at the end of their 11th and 12th grade year. Without this number on file there will be a hold on multiple accounts required for college application. At your earliest convivence, please have your student bring a copy of their social security card to the Registrar's Office or Counseling Office in A-building.
A hard copy of the card is required, we cannot accept just the number.
Parent Square
Beginning July 18, 2023 GCPS adopted a new form of school-to-home communication called ParentSquare. This provides a safe way for district administrators, school principals, teachers, staff, and parents to receive and send information, such as:
- Weather-related closings & delays
- School and class information
- Share pictures and files
- See calendar items
- Upcoming class activities
- Communicate with teachers
If you have questions about confirming your account access, please send an email to PSQHelp@gcpsk12.org.
We are preparing for District Assessment Interim season. Students enrolled in the courses below will take a District Assessment Interim (midterm) for 5% of their grade.
District Assessments are developed to align to the Academic, Knowledge, and Skills (AKS) and GCPS instructional calendars in the areas of language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. These assessments allow students to demonstrate what they know, understand, and are able to do and help teachers determine whether students are performing as expected or need additional support to be successful.
District Assessment Interim Testing Schedule:
· World History and U.S. History: Thursday, October 12th
· Biology, Chemistry, and Physics: Friday, October 13th
· Algebra, Geometry, Accelerated Geometry, and Advanced Algebra: Monday, October 16th
· 9th, 10th, and 11th grade Language Arts: Tuesday, October 17th
The District Assessment Interims will be given online. Student must bring their Chromebook (charged) and a charger.
Please be sure to attend school for these testing days.
The PHS Advisement Program offers additional academic support and mentoring for our students. If you missed the informational video about this class on the digital curriculum night, you can access it here:
Attendance Tip of the Week
Please Be on Time
Parents will now receive notification via PARENT SQUARE when their students are absent or tardy to their classes. Please use your ParentVue app to see what specific classes your student missed. The messages, and the ParentVue app are great tools to keep parents in the loop regarding their child’s attendance. As always, please remember school starts promptly at 7:15 am and students need to be on a campus a few minutes early to allow time to travel to their first period class and be on time.
ASVAB Career Exploration Program
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, or ASVAB, is an optional aptitude test offered to our juniors and seniors each year. This test is designed to help you discover special skills and potential abilities you may have.
What does the future hold for you?
What types of careers match your interests, skills, and values?
What kind of education do you need to enter an occupation?
These are all important questions, and you can begin taking steps now to find the career that's right for you. Your test results, along with an exploration guide, will help you explore careers and plan your future.
Although the Department of Defense administers this test, you are under no obligation to the military, in any way, to take the ASVAB.
Students will be required to sign up to take the test.
