Roughly a year after the outbreak of COVID-19 took away a chance to win their school's first UIL concert band Sweepstakes trophy, the Johnson Jaguar Wind Ensemble April 1 took to the Hays CISD PAC and accomplished that very mission. On April 1, the Jaguar Wind Ensemble, led by director Joey Lucita, captured the program's very first Sweepstakes trophy at the Region 18 Concert and Sightreading evaluations.

Dear Jaguar Band Families,

We had an awesome week this past week!!! We had the Kick-Off of our SNAP Fundraiser, our second New Member Marching Camp, our first rehearsal of the 2021 Drumline and Front Ensemble, and an incredible set of performances from our Varsity and JV Winter Guards!! Rather than just a great day to be a Jaguar, it was a great WEEK to be a Jaguar!!

We want to keep this streak of greatness going!! This week we have our Night Of Jazz! Please join the JHS Jazz Band for their inaugural concert on Tuesday, April 13th, at the Hays Performing Arts Center! The Night of Jazz concert is a joint venture with the Hays High School Jazz Band and will feature guest saxophonist Dr. Matt Maldonado! Due to COVID protocols, you must reserve a ticket in advance. Tickets are FREE. Doors to the auditorium open at 6 p.m., and the show begins at 6:30. Please follow this link to get your ticket:

Additionally this week we want to celebrate the success of both our Johnson JV and Johnson Varsity Winter Guards for winning the TCGC Area Championships!!! And we just found out that our JV Team qualified for WGI National finals!!

We are continuing our SNAP Fundraiser this week, as well. Currently, fewer than fifty percent of our band students have registered and submitted the email addresses needed for the fundraiser!! I encourage all of you to help make this fundraiser an even greater success by completing this step! Let’s get to 100% participation so we can achieve 100% success! This really is the easiest and most profitable fundraiser that we can do. It only takes entering email addresses of family, friends or acquaintances that may be will to make a donation in support of our Jaguar Band!! Let’s do this!!!

Please let all siblings and families with eighth-grade DMS or MMS band students know that April 20 will be our last New Member Marching Camp! It will be from 5 - 7:20 p.m. at JHS. It will be the 1st night for any students interested in joining our JAGuard! We want to get every eighth-grade band member there and anyone (8-11 grade) interested in joining color guard! Please push this out and encourage all of them to participate!!

We are beginning the process of band placement auditions and will be issuing the music to all wind players soon. This year's auditions will be virtual. Specific instructions will be sent to the students for recording and submitting their audition.

IMPORTANT DATE!! We need everyone to mark on their calendars that we will hold our Spring Marching Band Registration, Full Marching Camp and Parent Preview in May!! The dates are May 20, 21 & 22. This is a REQUIRED camp for all Wind, Percussion and Guard members in grades 8 - 11. It will be the very first time we assemble the 2021 - 22 Johnson Jaguar Marching Band, and it is going to be a massive celebration to wrap up the 2020 - 21 year and welcome this upcoming marching season!! It is going to be AWESOME! We can’t wait for everyone to see and hear our entire Jaguar Marching Band!

A new addition to our Sponsorship options is the Friends and Family Level. This level offers various options for businesses as well as an option for band families: For $200, you can have your child’s name and graduation year on our band trailer indefinitely with the option to simultaneously add sibling name for an additional $100.
