May 8 - May 12
Principal's Post
Yesterday we celebrated our very own senior, Max Owens, by wearing a wide variety of striped socks. Max was born with an extremely rare genetic syndrome called Five p Minus Syndrome (5p- Syndrome). Max is missing a pretty significant portion of the “p” arm on his 5th chromosome (hence 5 p minus) So why the striped socks? International Awareness Week is the first week in May every year and culminates with a striped-sock day. The stripes signify the bands on the chromosome and each sock represents a “p” arm. Every May 5th Max’s mom walks around Lake Oswego with her striped socks and strikes up some great conversations about 5p- and now more people around LO know about Max and this syndrome. Mission accomplished!
Students may recognize Max as one of our Joe's Boathouse employees, an office assistant in the front office, at the track running his fastest 100m, or giving it his all at the long jump pit. Most importantly, Max teaches all of us the importance and value of inclusion everywhere.
Take care,
Kristen Colyer

Verification Campaign: Humor, Fun, and Prizes
We have a hunch some of you still need to verify information in our system. Most "home" numbers are abandoned landlines, yet more than 320 of our households list home numbers as their only numbers. We know phone calls are passe, but sometimes an old-fashioned conversation is necessary.
Log into ParentVUE and review/update your students' information through the Register/Verify tab. If you have forgotten your ParentVUE password, go to the login page, click "I am a Parent," then click "Forgot Password." Contact your student's school if you need clarification on whether you have a ParentVUE account. For assistance with the verification process, refer to the user guide on the LOSD website or contact your student's school.
Green Team Event
Green Team students and any interested volunteers are needed for a work party on Saturday May 13 from 1-4 pm to uncover and regenerate soil that has been trapped for decades under a tarp at a local church. This will help sequester carbon from the atmosphere. Snacks and drinks are provided and at 4 pm there will be pizza. Any age is welcome and you can join for as many hours as you are able.
Thank you!

ACS Mock Interview Program
As a culmination of their ACS class, LOHS freshmen create a resume and learn how to interview for an entry-level job. We need many volunteers to make this an effective program and empower our students with practical skills. This is one of the few volunteer opportunities that enables you to be in the classroom at LOHS. We will be hosting the ACS Mock Interview program for six ACS periods of second semester students from May 18-23, 2023 in person at Lake Oswego High School.
Volunteers on Thursday and Friday, May 18 and 19, will work with small groups of students in the classroom to practice for a job interview with a pre-set curriculum. Volunteers on Monday and Tuesday, May 22 and 23, will interview students individually for a typical entry-level high school job.
To volunteer, please complete two steps:
1. Sign up for Mock Interview Program volunteer slots here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0B4EADAC2CA6F49-lohs5
2. Complete a volunteer background check if you have not completed one this school year (check boxes for all schools where you would like to volunteer) here. It only takes 5 minutes to complete but can take a few weeks to get approved, so please complete it ASAP: https://apps.raptortech.com/Apply/MjIwOTplbi1VUw==

Asthma/Allergy Medications at School
It is critical to the health and safety of your student to bring ALL doctor recommended medications to school. Over the summer, speak with your doctor to get the proper supplies for school and then go to the LOSD web page to find the proper forms to be completed with the medications. If your student is in Elementary or Secondary and will store their meds at school, watch for a medication drop off time for your particular school. If they are in secondary and keeping their medication in their possession, please submit the proper paperwork so we are aware of where to find their medication in case of an emergency.
Individualized Health Plan? - Watch for an Email
If your child has a LOSD Individualized Health Plan (IHP) developed in consultation with your District Nurse, please watch for an email! Your response is needed to confirm or update your student's plan. We appreciate your prompt response.
Immunizations
Please review the OHA requirements and information on required immunizations for students. Please make arrangements to complete immunizations and update Synergy over the summer to avoid exclusion in 2024.
If you would like to speak to your school’s district nurse, click the link below for contact information.
Ways to report incidents related to bias, racism or harassment in losd
Parents-guardians who have concerns about a student’s well-being are encouraged to reach out to their principal, and to maintain strong lines of communication and partnership between students, families, staff, and other resources. SafeOregon is also an effective way to report a tip regarding safety threats or potential acts of violence to our students or schools. Students should also be aware that intentionally providing a false report is a serious offense. https://www.safeoregon.com/
In addition, below are reporting methods for parents-guardians or students to use to report issues related to racist, bias, or harassment incidents.
