Each year, the Student Handbook is updated and provides basic information on important matters such as curriculum, discipline, student health, parent-teacher conferences and more. Help your child have a successful school year by becoming familiar with the information in this handbook and discussing it with your child as appropriate. This handbook is based on Board Policy with relevant policy sections noted in parentheses. Parents are encouraged to review Board Policy, which is provided in a searchable format. The Board of Education reviews and amends its policy regularly; if the policy differs from information in this handbook, Board Policy takes precedence.
New Rhithm Program to Support All Students
After a successful pilot program last school year, District 41 is now implementing a program for all students K-8th grade called Rhithm. Rhithm is a simple tool to support students’ ability to recognize how they are feeling while equipping them with skills and strategies to be stronger learners in and outside of the classroom. This is a way to support the well-being of each and every student.
Research indicates that students who have certain life skills, including self-regulation, are more likely to achieve higher levels of academic success, have increased levels of effort and motivation, and are better prepared for class. Teachers will be using this tool as a quick daily check-in connected to our social emotional lessons to ensure that we are focusing on students’ hearts and wellness first and that we are addressing their physical and emotional needs in a very individualized way. If a need arises, staff will contact the parents/guardians to work together to provide the appropriate support.

Referendum Information
On November 8, 2022, Glen Ellyn School District 41 residents will vote on a $49 million bond referendum that will solve our significant space issues.
The proposed plan would build a new elementary school on our Spalding property and a new early learning center addition to our Churchill School. The plan will now appear on the ballot in the upcoming November 8th election for community approval.
If successful, the referendum will allow the district to:
Keep Class Sizes Small in Our Neighborhood Schools
Offer Full-Day Kindergarten for All Families in their Home School
Continue Building Innovative Opportunities for Kids
With the additional space provided by the referendum, we will be able to protect class sizes now and into the future. We will also be able to better facilitate collaboration, which allows for more individual and small group instruction and provides hands-on learning experiences for students.
We will also finally be able to offer full-day programming for kindergartners, which our community has been wanting for years. We’ll also be able to expand our award-winning preschool. These improvements will increase academic and social emotional learning for early learners and potentially provide childcare savings for parents.
Finally, we’ll be better able to meet the individual needs of each and every student through optimized spaces for student resources and supports, programming, and specials. Students will have access to the specialized instruction and related services they need in spaces that maintain their personal dignity and confidentiality. And they’ll get more opportunities to take advantage of innovative programming and STEAM education in improved learning environments.
To support the community’s investment in our schools, the district is pledging $18 million in reserves towards this important work. This is possible because of the district’s conservative approach to spending, focusing on needs over wants and spending on students instead of administration. Our district is fiscally responsible, with the lowest tax rate, lowest cost per student, and highest student-to-administrator ratio of all Glenbard feeder schools.
Solving our district’s space needs would allow us to provide better learning environments, helping our students thrive and continuing our commitment to excellence.

PEP Hosts PEP Rally for Families
In celebration of the Partnership for Educational Progress’ (PEP) 30th anniversary, all District 41 families and staff are invited to a PEP Rally from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, at Ackerman Sports and Fitness Center in Glen Ellyn.
This event will feature food trucks, fun activities and the talents of students across seven school districts. The PEP Rally also will fund three new PEP programs:
- Ready to Learn Grant Program - ensures students at Glenbard community schools are arriving with their basic needs met and skills developed so they are ready to learn.
- Experiential Learning Grant Program - supports project-based learning and business incubator programs throughout Glenbard community schools.
- Equity in Educators Scholarship Honor Program - in honor of exemplary leadership in education, scholarships will be awarded to students of color seeking a career in education.

Glen Ellyn Park District Scholarship Program
The Glen Ellyn Park District provides programs and activities for all kids! The Park District Scholarship Program is available to all Glen Ellyn Park District residents that qualify. Scholarship funds can be used for non-contractual camps and classes, pool passes, trips, preschool, fitness, athletics, etc., where fees are required. Funds are not eligible for equipment purchases or rental fees. Residents and students who qualify are eligible to receive up to $400 maximum per person per calendar year (January 1-December 31) based on need and availability of funds. CLICK HERE FOR MORE
